What will happen to all my data if I delete my Facebook account ?

Deleting it starts Meta's account deletion process, but some data may remain temporarily in backups or for legal/security reasons. So it's not necessarily erased instantly from every system.

I’m more curious about the messages side of this. If you delete your account, do the messages you sent to other people stay linked to your name or do they become anonymous after the deletion?

Deleting your account removes most of your data over time, but some records may remain for legal or security reasons, so its not always instant.

Facebook deletes your profile, posts, photos, and videos, but not necessarily every copy of your data immediately. Meta says deletion can take up to 90 days, and backup copies or data retained for legal and security reasons may remain longer. Messages you sent may also remain in other people's inboxes.

Meta states that the content deletion process can take up to 90 days; backup copies may require additional time to be removed. This does not mean that all data is retained throughout that entire period.
