It depends on your niche, your efforts and competitors methods but every spam update is the same. Older sites that use to rank 5 years ago come back like no other, weird High DA parasite SEO pops up, and now AI overviews blobage controlled by 3rd party parasite SEO has no filter on how wrong it is. I am aware they arent in control of their own algorithm except for manual actions. Except for position one its like they grabbed a handful and just seeing what sticks to the wall.

In truth, I believe that each iteration is quite random, with old website surfacing, parasites appearing in the search results, and even nonsense popping up in the results of the AI search page. It’s as if Google puts everything in a pot and stirs to see what happen.

I noticed with major updates is that the SERPs can become pretty unpredictable for a while. Old pages resurfacing and unexpected sites jumping into the results doesn't necessarily mean the update failedit can take time for the new signals to settle.

I believe what makes it aggravating is how uncertain the outcome will be once an update is applied there have been cases where stable pages for several years end up shifting while newer websites become visible it would be better to track the changes and observe the trend rather than reacting

Every update seems to bring some unexpected winners and losers, try not to react too quickly during an update though, since rankings can move around a lot before things settle.

yeah first days after update are always a mess. old sites come back, random parasites rank and good pages just disappear. i dont change anything fast now, usually wait a week or two and see what stays. many times results change again without doing anything

One thing I notice during spam updates is old domains suddenly coming back for keywords they haven't ranked for in years. Then a week or two later a lot of those gains disappear again

Classic SERP testing behavior. Algorithms routinely push pages up temporarily to monitor user engagement metrics (CTR, bounce rate, dwell time) before establishing a permanent baseline position.
