ChatGPT Is Starting to Show Ads at the Bottom of Answers. Anyone Else Seeing This?

They gotta stop burning cash at some point. So many are free users. They're also limiting to what free users can do on chatgpt.

Yeah, that's the difficult part of running a platform at this scale. Free users bring huge usage costs, so eventually they have to find a sustainable way to monetize them. Ads + tighter free limits seem like the obvious route.

This is an interesting shift for sure. If ads become a regular part of the free ChatGPT experience, the bigger question for SEOs will be how sponsored visibility and organic AI mentions develop side by side. That could create a whole new layer of optimization to watch.

Exactly. That's the part I'm watching too. If sponsored visibility starts appearing alongside organic AI recommendations, it could create a completely different layer of optimization. It will be interesting to see how users actually distinguish between the two.

nope not showing for me

Yes, may not be available for everyone/all regions yet.

First Google ads, now AI ads :D

Haha, exactly :D First we learned how to deal with Google ads, now we might have to figure out AI ads too.

tbf It was just a matter of time. big platform will always find a way to capitalize on free traffic; the interesting thing will be how people respond to it.

Yeah! True.

Not surprised at all. Running LLMs at scale costs millions daily, so an ad-supported model makes total economic sense. The real challenge now will be optimizing for both organic LLM citation and paid AI ad placements.

Chatgpt started way back in February 2026. You can get $500 ads credit when you spend $500 on ads. Offer is probably gone by now was valid till Sept.

I've noticed something interesting recently. ChatGPT is now displaying ad listings at the bottom of some answers, somewhat similar to how Google displays sponsored results alongside organic search results.

This got me thinking about where AI search is heading. If ChatGPT continues expanding its advertising model, could we eventually see something similar to Google?

For SEO and AI SEO/GEO, this could become quite interesting.

Google built its search ecosystem around SEO + PPC. Now AI platforms are introducing sponsored advertising as well. If users increasingly shift from traditional search to AI, could we eventually see a similar model organic AI visibility + paid AI advertising?
yep, i spot out to but i saw this two parallel channels as organic visibilty and paid placement much like search today. key point be as paid result separate from organic citation. for geo brand authority and source relevance still matter on organic side.

It's going the same way Google went, a few ads at the bottom first, then more over time. The organic answer still comes from sources ChatGPT trusts, so getting mentioned on the sites it cites (reviews, lists, Reddit threads) matters more now than before.
