If you have kids of a certain age you will be familiar with the adventures of this animated Blue dog. And if like me you’ve sat through hours of the things (it’s actually quite good)you may already know about the Long Dog.
If your new to is here’s the thing: The animators hide a tiny dachshund (long dog) somewhere in the background of loads of episodes.
Sometimes it’s really obvious but not always and sometimes it’s not even there.
Once you know this is a thing though, you start looking for it in every damn episode.
And that changes how you watch and how many times you watch. Now you pause, rewind, scan the background. Secretly Search Google.
Until someone shouts, “Got it!”
And this isn’t just in my household but in Bluey watching households all over the goddam world.
I never knew this was even a thing until another parent on a play date shouted “got it” whilst watching Bluey. once I noticed I involuntarily ended up playing along on every watch.
And that got me thinking really thinking
Could I use the same idea on Instagram.
The basic idea is simple. You choose one small recurring thing like an emoji drawing or word hide it somewhere in your content and see if anyone notices.
So for my mug brand I hid a biscuit emoji in all my posts.
And at first, nothing happened.
I don’t make a big deal of it. I just kept putting it out there.
Eventually someone noticed and then the game began. Someone else noticed that the other follower had noticed. And now the game was afoot.
Because people knew there might be something hidden in my content, they behaved differently.
They left comments like “found it” and dropped cookie emojis told me how many times they had to watch it before seeing it.
if they find and post it before everyone else, even better. There’s a little bit of status in that. And that drove the algorithm.
With a whirl of interactivity you couldn’t buy.
Over time, regular followers started to understand the game and felt like they’re in on something.
Then they start explaining it in the comments to new people and you get a hive of activity in your comments. Which is all goo.
Of course being BHW if no one noticed you can always prompt them with a second account “why do always buy a biscuit emoji in your posts”.
Just don’t let the main account draw attention to it otherwise it’s an obvious engagement trick and not a insider secret game.
