Hello,
This website is about electricity price comparison in Finland. After latest Google core update in summer, it started to rise to the top of the search results, to my estimation making up to 10 000 euros per month.
site: sahkon-hintavertailu dot fi
The rankings have further improved in the past months from summer.

Quickly looking it has as backlinks average paid quest posts which one can buy 100-400 euros each. The site is like one year old,. The content is pretty average, probably GenAI and edited, and not deep.
SEO headings are clickbait in Google, promising prices which do not exists, cheaper than what is being sold.

So is this how SEO now works? Should I just also make some new domain, make a couple of pages for most popular keywords around the topic, make every two weeks random quest posts around the topic to average DR sites with some hundreds of euros, and have some clickbait prices which are not real to get more click in Google? And repeat the same every 6-12 months for each core update to rank in the Google algo which seems to push to the top new urls like a beast.

It’s interesting how some newer sites break through with simple content and a handful of paid links, but that doesn’t mean the approach is stable long term. Google has been boosting fresh domains lately, but once quality checks tighten, only the projects built with consistency tend to survive the updates.

it has lots of authority (DR 48) and backlinks from local sites with lots of authority themselves, so it's pretty good :)

So the page has DR 6 and ranks with most searched keywords around the topic to rank 1 or 2.
The first ranking site has DR 48 and a lot of newspaper mentions on weekly basis.

I think new domain gets 6-24 month boost currently with the peak being around 12-18 months. But the boost is so big that with GenAI it is little bit questionable if it is easier to just build simple sites all the time or actually invest in something proper. Or for example for a lot of companies it would make sense to have one core asset and then play around with this google new domain thing like in this case the owner of sahkon-hintavertailu is doing.

There are quite a few sites like this, with DR 6 some guest posts and average content. But this one is combined to at least clickbait headings (people click lowest price (which is not existing in reality), which is cheating but so might impact later conversions and long term main site rankings). Also, as people want to see the cheap price they interact with the landing page to go to the price comparison to the main site, and that interaction or real usage of the site might be one factor. But is this enough or is there some further tricks done here is a question, need to maybe just try out for fun after next core update if situation does not change there.

Hi SIR
It sounds like this scenario:
New site
10 paid guest posts
Domain Rating (DR) ~7
Shows “Rank 1” for some keywords
But traffic is only ~40K (likely estimated, maybe from Ahrefs/Semrush)

Here’s what’s actually happening:
New sites with DR7 do not rank #1 for anything competitive.
You are most likely ranking for:
Ultra low-competition keywords
Zero-search-volume keywords
Long-tail keywords nobody else targets
Branded terms
Irrelevant or junk keywords (Ahrefs / Semrush overestimations)
So “Rank 1” ≠ real traffic.
Ahrefs, Semrush, Ubersuggest often show inflated traffic estimations, especially for new domains.
A DR7 domain with 10 guest posts cannot realistically get 40K real organic traffic unless
It has a viral page
Or it is ranking for programmatic SEO keywords
Or the traffic is non-organic (social, referral, bot)
If your real Google Search Console traffic is low, then the 40K is just a tool estimate.
Thanks

You've basically reverse-engineered the new Google playbook - fresh domains with mediocre content are absolutely crushing established sites right now, and it's driving everyone insane. The core update seems to heavily favor "domain freshness" over traditional authority signals, especially in commercial niches like price comparison where Google wants diverse results. Your Finland electricity site is probably benefiting from being exactly what Google wants to show - a local, recent player in a space dominated by older corporate sites.

The strategy you're describing (fresh domain + basic content + modest paid links + clickbait titles) is unfortunately working across tons of niches right now, which explains why so many people are spinning up new domains every 6 months instead of building long-term authority. The risk is that Google will eventually crack down on this pattern, but for now the algorithm seems to interpret "new domain with recent content" as "fresh perspective" rather than "low-quality spam."

Now in September has again started this thing what "code API" user says above, so new sites getting high in ranking, at least in Finland in Google. Last year this ended somewhere in late December, so there was good play time of at least 4 months with a fresh domain made with AI, and exactly in autumn-December like last year. Easily bought authority, AI generated average content, and again in the case I observe likely from the same site owner as last year. Worst is that looking the backlinks it seems to be redirected domain of the last year site, so he/she is just using the authority of the old domain which lost rankings last December getting back to top of Google. so this trick is easy to redo in annual basis as you clearly can utilize still old domain authority too. Here is image of the DR of the new domain, it is not much.

I do not think that DR alone is enough for explaining such growth new websites can achieve good ranking positions if their keyword competitiveness content relevancy backlinks and general signals are good it would be interesting to see how this website is going to cope with the next update.

I wouldn't copy the strategy based on one site. Low DR doesn't mean weak rankings if the niche and search intent are right so I would check which pages and queries are actually driving that traffic first.
