yes, for a long term project, I would prefer to make somethiing which stays alive even with the updates.fast gains in rankings are great but in most cases consistency is more important.

So as far as youre into SEO and purposely building something, its probably black hat or gray hat to some extent.

Tbh..I’ve been building backlinks, doing research, and creating blogs with automation, and in the end, it’s worth it. You just have to follow a decent strategy instead of overthinking what hat it falls under.foe me it's always black hat lol and I am pretty sure people will try to rationalize hehehe

Man this is 100% spot on. Unfortunately a lot of people just don't get this and sit around overthinking about different SEO hats. Thanks to AI these days, automation is incredibly easy. Building a site, creating content, and building backlinks are all fully automated now, even if you have zero tech knowledge. So there is no need to worry about which hat you belong to. Just go out there and build some.

see it depends actually.
If it’s a long term business, I will stick with white-hat SEO because I want consistent traffic and a stable brand. Black-hat tactics might bring quick results, but the risk of losing rankings is always there.
 
For long term projects I prefer whitehat SEO since it feels more sustainable and easier to manage over time
 
You have precisely the right mindset for 2026. White hat SEO is the only approach that builds genuine, compounding trust and withstands algorithm updates on primary money sites. Black hat tactics such as manipulative link building carry considerable risk and can get a site penalized overnight.
 
Pretty much the same split here, though the line between the two is blurrier than people admit. Most long term sites still buy guest posts or niche edits at some point and that is a paid link whichever way you word it.
Actual white hat, outreach only, takes forever unless there is a real brand behind the site already.
 
I feel the same way. Staying focused on useful content, proper site structure, and relevant links makes SEO easier to maintain. It also means you can keep improving the site instead of constantly worrying about whether the next update will affect a shortcut.

I think the type of website matters a lot. For a real business, I’d focus on methods that build long-term value and a good user experience. Short-term ranking gains might look attractive, but maintaining visibility and trust is important too.

Google is against any type of backlinks as per their statements but it is hard to enforce. Like there has to be some factors responsible for ranking and backlinks are important part of it.
