Hey BHW,

I want to know from the people what's the advice you got from someone no matter if that was a course or from a tweet or from a YT video.

That helped you to get a little or good traction on your Local SEO results. I would like who you go the advice from, what was the source like YT or anything and what was the advice?

Choosing the right categories matter a lot beside reviews.
That's a really good one I have seen people using irrelevant categories even though they have good reviews, photos, directions, website and call button. But despite having that they struggle because google is confused where to put the business in.

focusing more actual service area and search intent instead of trying to rank for every keyword.building useful local pages and getting relevant local mentions made more sense than just adding random citations.

Keyword-rich reviews do help in ranking. And with proper on-page SEO, you build the foundation for your site. And get your business listed on every mega listing platform like, yelp, bbb, angie, houzz, etc.

Cant even remember where I first picked it up but search the phone number, not the business name. Half the old listings are under a name or a spelling youd never think to type, the number is the one thing that stays the same.

real service area and what people are actually searching for.useful local pages and relevant local mentions have worked betterf than just building a bunch of random citations

best one i got was from a plumber client not an seo, he said "stop making me a new page, get me more reviews". he was right, reviews with the town and the job in them did more for him than anything i built in 2 years. i still do the site work but reviews first now

One piece of advice I found useful was to focus on the basics first: keeping the Google Business Profile accurate, building relevant local citations, and creating useful location-specific content. Consistency seems to matter a lot in Local SEO.

one tip that stuck with me was to search by phone number when checking old citations instead of only using the business name it can uncover listings with old names or different spellings that are easy to miss and those can useful when cleaning up citation issues

One simple thing that works: keep your business info consistent everywhere, get real reviews steadily, and make the site clearly relevant to the exact city + service. Local SEO is mostly getting a lot of small things right together.

Best advice I ever got didn't come from a course, it came from an agency owner I freelanced for early on. He told me: "you're writing hundreds of words on service pages nobody reads, but you're leaving every review unanswered - that's where the real content gap is." So I started replying to every single review with natural, keyword-rich responses: thank them by name, mention the exact service and the suburb, sign off with the business name. It puts relevant content right on the GBP listing itself, and within about six weeks the listing moved from the bottom of the pack to the top 3 for the main money terms.

The second one that stuck with me: stop building thin service-area pages. I used to spin up a page per suburb with swapped-out keywords and wondered why nothing ranked. When I rebuilt them with actual job photos from that area, a short case study, and genuinely different content, three of them started pulling calls. Basics first, like others said - categories, citations, consistent NAP - but review replies plus real service-area content were the two things that actually moved the needle for me.

Yes, there are quite a few citation issues that can be found from old phone books. I also usually search for old addresses because name searches leave out many duplicates.

One of the best local SEO lessons I’ve learned is to focus on the fundamentals first. Keep your GBP information accurate, build strong reviews, create relevant local content, and maintain consistent citations. These basics can have a bigger impact than constantly chasing new SEO tactics.

That's true keeping the basics sorted first then moving to advance or intermediate steps gives the best results possible. If you dont have right category, right information nothing gonna work

Phone search can reveal many instances of remaining citations. I would also perform searches using older addresses, because searching by name alone may overlook duplicate or outdated listings.
