Hello, my friends!

I want to move my WordPress website, which have over 300 posts, to a different hosting service.

What’s the best way to migrate the websites smoothly without breaking anything?

Do migration plugins work well for this, or is it better to do the migration manually? What would you guys suggest?

Thank you

just use a popular plugin like Duplicator
you will need to migrate both database and files so make sure do a backup before moving

UpdraftPlus Backup/Restore. Works for me every time. Easy to use.

Whats the process you do exactly sir?

As a small steps from one host to other transferring.. lets say in 5 or 10 steps.

I’ve used migration plugins for sites this size and they can work fine, but I’d still take a full backup first and test everything on the new host before switching DNS.

thats a good point tbh. thank you

You can migrate it manually or use a plugin like Duplicator or UpdraftPlus; both options should work fine.

After migration, make sure to test the entire website, especially URLs, redirects, images, plugins, and loading speed. Sometimes a migration can cause performance or configuration issues, which can affect crawling and indexing if not fixed quickly.

For a site with 300+ posts, migration plugins like All-in-One WP Migration or duplicator work smoothly without needing manual database tweaks. Just make sure to take a full manual backup before starting the process.

One extra step before the move: lower the DNS TTL ahead of the switch, then keep the old host online for a while after changing DNS. That reduces the chance of some visitors still hitting the old server during propagation.

firstly one thing i think you should know, i have seen many hosting companies do migration for free. and now since your site has 300+ posts, you should use a migration plugin. you should use updraft plus or duplicator plugin. and one thing, when changing dns, keep the ttl lowered, this will make your site update faster.

my choice of plugin would be migration plugin if I had to choose one for my big WP sites to prevent problems from happening. You should always do backups of everything before migration, test your hosting nd ensure everything is working properly after the migration.

For a site with 300+ posts, I'd use a reliable migration plugin like Duplicator or All-in-One WP Migration, as they make the process much easier. Take a full backup first, test the site on the new host and check URLs, images, redirects and forms before updating DNS.

Just make a full backup first, test the site on the new host before changing DNS, then switch DNS once everything looks good.

Then use a migration plugin since it’s usually much easier and less prone to missing files or database data.

a migration plugin is usually easier for a site with that many posts since it can move the database and files together i still make a full backup first and test the new copy before changing dns so you have a safe rollback if something breaks

tell the provider to do it for you
best way is to be lazy and make them do it.
and dont point it to the new host until they have it 100% up and rolling

For 300+ posts the plugin route is fine. What protects your rankings is the order you do things in. Here's the sequence I follow:

1. Lower your DNS TTL to 300 seconds at least 48 hours before the move, so the switch propagates quickly.
2. Take a full backup (files + database) with UpdraftPlus or Duplicator and download a copy locally.
3. Set up the new host and restore the backup there. If URLs break, check wp-config.php and run a search-replace on the database only if the domain is changing.
4. Test on the new server before touching DNS. Point your computer's hosts file at the new server IP and browse the live domain. Check permalinks, images, forms, and plugin settings.
5. Install SSL on the new host before the switch so there's no HTTPS gap.
6. Change the A record. Keep the old hosting active for 72 hours, since some visitors still hit the old server while DNS propagates.
7. Afterwards, crawl the site with Screaming Frog (free up to 500 URLs) to catch broken links and mixed-content warnings, and keep an eye on Search Console's Crawl Stats and Page indexing report for a week.

If you tell us your old and new host we can point out any quirks (cache plugins and server-level caching are the usual culprits). Good luck with the move!
