How important is the initial setup of a new YouTube channel?

I’m setting up a new YouTube channel and I have a question about the initial setup. How important is it to have a proper channel description and relevant channel keywords/tags from the beginning? If I don’t set these things up properly when creating the channel, can it cause any issues later with the channel’s growth, search visibility, or overall performance? Also, for a new channel, is there any specific setup that you think is important to complete before uploading the first videos?

It is really helpful for visibility but not essential at first, u can slowly add these details and still be fine. Make sure to add proper description thats important in my opinion
 
I think the initial setup is important, but it’s not everything. A clear niche, good channel branding, proper titles and descriptions, and consistent content can give a new channel a solid start. Ultimately, the quality and consistency of the videos matter most.
 
Don’t overthink the initial setup. A decent description and relevant keywords are enough to start. Focus more on good content, titles, thumbnails and consistency. You can always optimize the rest later.
 
At channel level, you do not need to worry at all. Careful with adding Video language and Country of residence.

i wouldnt spend too much time trying to perfect channel keywords before the first upload.

i'd care more about making the first 5-10 videos clearly serve the same type of viewer. proper titles/descriptions, thumbnails and getting people to actually watch the videos will tell youtube much more about the channel than stuffing the initial settings.

i'd still complete the basic setup and verification properly, but i wouldnt delay uploading because the channel description or keyword list isnt perfect yet.

Yeah this actually takes alot of pressure off lol quick q - when u say "proper titles/descriptions" for those first vids, u thinkin keyword focused or more just clear n clickable for actual humans? feels like theres sometimes a tradeoff there

also does the channel verification stuff (like the phone verify n basic info) actually impact how yt treats the channel early on, or is that more just a formality that dont really affect reach/discoverability at all

a good description and some relevant keywords are enough to get going.put more focus content titles thumbnails and staying consistent then optimize the other stuff later

Right on. It’s all about packaging and consistency 90% of the time bwithout that click from the title and thumbnail, your SEO is never even going to be utilized in the first place. Figure out your CTR and retention before moving onto your metadata optimization based off of searches.

All of that metadata doesnt even matter tbh since the algorithm is just focused on click through rate and engagement for ur first couple of videos anyways.

Totally agree so when ur testing thumbnails/titles for CTR, do u actually A/B test them somehow or is it more just vibes n gut feeling based on past videos?? also whats a "good" retention % ur aiming for before u even bother tweaking metadata, or does that just depend on the niche/video lenght

Section for set branding, verification to be done first too as hashtags will not help a poor quality video but a channel topic will.
 
Would it be better to create and set up the account initially from the country I want to target, such as the UK or USA, using a VPN or RDP based in that country?
 
The initial setup is quite important; it determines the content and topic, as well as your keyword strategy, to attract a wide audience. If you have a complete model, you can set it up beforehand. Otherwise, you can adjust it gradually. It's still quite effective, but providing all the necessary information will increase the credibility of your channel.
 
Does your channel verification status actually impact early reach or is it mostly just a formality?

It is important. You want to fill out majority of the areas you can.

  1. Channel Description
  2. Channel Banner
  3. Any information about the channel/niche
  4. Keywords
  5. Having a Clear Niche for the Channel
  6. Artwork
  7. Branding
You want to spend time building these things and building consistency. if you start in the areas listed in a strong manner from the beginning then you will have the best possible chance of translating that into retention and also subscribers.

By not doing any of these right away you are not hurting the future but instead hurting your potential traction in the beginning.
 
I would prepare the channel info prior to uploading, mainly the description and branding. However, I will pay more attention to video topics, titles and thumbnails, as they affect performance the most.
 
I don't think the initial settings will significantly impact your channel's growth. They can be adjusted later. The important thing is to focus on the content.

honestly no one even bothers to read channel descriptions anyways jsst upload the video and think about the thumb nail and hooks.
