When a page drops, I usually compare the new SERP results instead of immediately building more links. Curious what others look at first when rankings shift.

Yeah, I do the same thing. First, check to see what pages have taken my place and if their content, intent has any kind of edge, then determne if linking even needs to be done.

I usually check the SERP changes, search intent, competitor movements, and GSC data first before building more backlinks. This helps identify whether the drop is link-related or caused by content/algorithm changes.

Sometimes a ranking drop is limited to one keyword, so I would compare the page across its main search terms.

same here. i tend to check what replaced the page, particlarly the intent and depth of the content. at times, the shift in SERPs is more revealing than just more backlinnks.

compare the changed search results and search intent first, then check Google Search Console for which queries and pages dropped. Only consider link building if the evidence points that way.

Yeah I usually check the new SERP results first too it helps to see which pages replaced the ranking and whether they have better content or stronger authority sometimes the drop is not really about backlinks so i prefer checking the changes before doing anything else

I check who replaced me and what they’re doing differently. Sometimes a ranking drop isn’t about backlinks at all the serp itself has changed.

I usually check which competitors moved up and compare their content and link changes first It often shows whether the drop is site-wide or just affecting one page

mostly check search intent shifts first, sometimes google just favors a different content format now. also look if competitors updated their pages recently before touching links.

Yes, and I log it. Sheet with keyword, old position, new position, which url took the spot, and whether my linking pages are still indexed. The last two drops I traced were not a competitor beating me, it was my own supporting links falling out of the index so the page lost weight. Looked like a content problem until the sheet showed the pattern. Recrawl the supporting pages first, then decide whether you need more.
