Do You First Consider Traffic Quality When Linking

Yes, traffic quality matters more to me than raw numbers. I’d check relevance, engagement, traffic sources, conversions, and whether visitors actually match the target audience.

The source of the traffic matters too, since two sites can have similar visitor numbers but very different audiences.

Relevance and audience quality are definitely more important than just raw traffic numbers. A few visitors who actually care about the content will always do more for a site than high volume from an unrelated audience.

Definitely A site can have impressive traffic numbers but still send little value I’d look at relevance engagement and whether the traffic actually matches the audience before judging a link

For me the source matters a lot. I check conversion rate, user behaviour and whether the traffic actually matches the target audience before looking at volume.

i believe we have to consider traffic quality before considering the engagement and other factors

I have started moving past counting traffic and considering the engagement rates and conversion rate and quality of the traffic sources before anything else. Just curious about what other people consider.
I also measure the bounce rate, tym on page and assisted conversion rates sometimes low volume sources delivered mch better quality users than high traffic sources.

Top things to consider are the niche and the traffic. One thing we also do is look into the keyword that makes all that traffic. Are they niche-relevant or are they generic keywords?

For example if you're trying to build a link for a real estate business, you want to look into their top pages. By top pages you can find the keywords that make all the traffic with Ahrefs. If you look at all those keywords and they are related to real estate, then that's the niche-targeted traffic website that you should be building your link from .

I find that traffic quality is one of the most important factors compared to just pure traffic volumes In my opinion the engagement rate and a visitor’s ability to perform some actions on the website are crucial metrics to look at a source after all an engaged audience can bring much more value than a huge influx of users that is only viewed on the website and doesn’t interact with the brand in any meaningful way

The keyword check a few posts up is the bit most people skip, agreed. One thing I'd add on top of it: check the actual page the link will sit on, not just the domain.

I've had links on sites with genuinely good niche traffic where the specific post was four clicks deep off the homepage, nothing pointing at it internally, and basically no one landed on it. Domain metrics looked fine, the page was a dead end. Now I pull the site's top pages first and ask whether my link is going anywhere near one of them, or at least somewhere that gets linked internally.

Bounce rate and time on page I'm less sure about (GA4 changed what those measure and I don't really trust comparing them across sites). Does anyone here weight page-level placement, or is domain-level relevance enough for you?

i have started seeing it from that perspective as well. it is easy to see high traffic figures on paper but it means nothing if they are not engaging or doing anything else for that matter. the source, their intent nd their actions are much more important than their mere pressence.

Yes, a link feels more useful when the website has real activity and keeps publishing fresh content.

I agree. Traffic volume alone doesn't tell you much. I usually look at engagement, traffic sources, relevance, and whether the traffic actually has value for the site before considering a link.
Absolutely. Traffic from hitwise. is useless if it's all just fake. clicks coming from irrelevant countries. This is where traffic source and backlink analysis really speak volumes.

truthfully, I’m actually more concerned about where the traffic is coming from rather than the stats themselves. random traffic may show impressive stats in the tool but if the traffic is not relevant, I usually pass.

I usually check niche relevance, traffic quality, and whether the site has a genuine audience before deciding if a backlink is worth it because site might have good traffic on paper, but if the audience arent relevant

Yeah, raw traffic figures may be very deceptive. I would take into account the source, intention, geography, and engagement as well; 10,000 targeted visitors can be much more valuable than 50,000 generic clicks.

You are right.

I think where the traffic comes from and how well those visitors engage with the site are the most important points when analyzing traffic quality.

Traffic quality definitely beats raw volume every time. High traffic means nothing if the audience bounces instantly or doesn't convert.
