I’m curious to know what type of backlinks are currently working best for rankings in 2026. There are many strategies like guest posts, niche edits, Web 2.0 links, profile links, and forum backlinks, but search engine algorithms keep changing.

For those who are actively building links and seeing results, which backlink types are giving you the best improvements in rankings and traffic lately? Are contextual links from real websites still the most effective, or are there other strategies that are working better now?

It would be great to hear some real experiences and recommendations from members who are testing different link building methods this year.

In my experience, contextual backlinks from real niche websites are still the most effective in 2026. Guest posts and niche edits on relevant sites with real traffic tend to move rankings the most. Profile links, Web 2.0, and forum backlinks can still help, but mostly for diversification or tier links rather than directly ranking a page. So overall, quality + relevance matters much more than quantity now.

From my experience lately, contextual links from relevant sites still seem to have the biggest impact. Guest posts and niche edits move rankings more than profiles or Web 2.0s. Curious to see what others are testing in 2026.

contextual backlinks from relevant sites still tend to perform best, but diversifying your sources—like combining niche edits, guest posts, and well-placed forum links—can help balance risk. Try out different things in your area and keep a close eye on the results. Then, use the ones that work best to get more of what you want.

In 2026, the backlinks working best for rankings are *contextual links from relevant, high-authority websites*. Guest posts, niche edits, and editorial links placed naturally within quality content tend to carry the most SEO value and look more natural to search engines.

In 2026, high quality contextual backlinks from authoritative niche relevant websites and digital PR placements are still delivering the strongest ranking improvements.

I’ve had better results with contextual backlinks from relevant sites. Relevance and the quality of the linking page seem more important than simply chasing high metrics.

imo, the answer that is alway boring is what will win, contextually relevant link . iirc, metrics nd low-quality links do not work for the long haul.

Check what pages are getting links for your competitors and try creating similar useful content.

niche editing on live traffic page nd digital PR works, for what it is worth. everything else is just white noise unless you’re dealing with Web 2.0/Tier 2 sites only to gain indexing nd anchor diversity. If the page from which the link is placed isn’t getting any organic traffic, google does not even pay attention to it.

Indeed, backlinks from your competitors can be helpful to discover some content gaps. I would definitely consider relevance and traffic besides stealing all their links.

I would vote for the following:

a) Parasite link building/brand mention ( Quora/Reddit and other parasites includes)

b) Local news site link building/mention/ public relation featured posts

c) Niche relevant sites to help increase topical authority.

d) Local ( extremely local) citation building
