Gurus, long story short, I need to create a brand new Facebook account. I have a brand-new phone and a brand-new SIM card.

My main goal is to have Facebook Marketplace available and active without running into unnecessary ID/identity confirmation issues.

What would be the best way to set up the account?

  1. Should I create the account using my phone number that came with my SIM card, or create it with email first and add the phone number afterward?
  2. I plan to only use it on phone data, no home WI-FI, should I enable 2FA immediately, or wait until the account has been established for a while?

when you open the accounts do you warm them up?
I need to warm the account up before marketplace becomes availbl.e.. So I am thinking what the best process. Should I open via email first, then add phone... don't add phone number at all for now..

If you create a Facebook account for sales purposes, I don't think a new account will last long on the platform.

So how do you create an account for selling purposes then?

I can add the phone number... but what the point of adding 2FA?
If 2FA is required, then is it better confirm 2FA with SMS (same phone as added on account) or is it better to use Authenticator app?

Hello,
1. You should register with a clean Email (Gmail/Outlook) first, complete the email confirmation, and then add your new SIM phone number in settings. Signing up directly via phone number triggers higher fraud checks due to virtual SIM/SMS spam filters.
2. Enable 2FA immediately using an Authenticator App (like Google Authenticator) right after account creation - this significantly boosts initial trust scores and prevents random login checkpoints.
=> Marketplace won't appear on day one. Keep using cellular data, browse Marketplace listings organically, save items, and interact naturally for 3–7 days to let Meta's automated system grant Marketplace access
Good luck !

Thank you so much! I did as you metioned and my marketplace is open right away, from day one (strange). Do you know when is it's usually safe to list item? I heard fb does ID verificaiton on new marketplace accounts, I need to avoid that. I got no ID.

Also, do you think on top of Authenticator should I setup RECOVERY CODES?

Setting up an account using your mobile phone and phone number is perfectly fine, provided you use it normally and avoid any unusual activity that might be flagged as spam. A new account needs time to "warm up" and build a reputation.

Getting Marketplace on day one is great, but listing immediately is a trap -> if you posting right away will trigger an automated anti-spam red flag and force an instant ID verification check. Wait at least 3-5 days while using the account like a real buyer (browse listings, save items, message sellers). When you create your first listing, should use unique photos taken directly with your phone camera (avoid generic Google images), write simple/non-spam descriptions, and price items realistically.

Wow, good to know that it's a trap.. I thought so too.. and in case they do ask for ID to list on marketplace... it is usually forever? or after some time (week or two) they will stop asking it?

If ID requirement is indeed forever, is there any workarounds to bypass it?

You are so helpful!

just use the account normally first and spend some time browsing and using facebook like a regular user instead of trying do everything at once keeping activity natural from the start should give you a better chance of avoiding unnecessary checks

Once Meta triggers the ID requirement for Marketplace, it's permanent - will never disappear on its own after weeks.
There is no coding or technical bypass to skip the upload screen once triggered. The standard industry workaround is shifting to aged, pre-verified accounts or submitting non-government secondary IDs matching the account name (like a work badge or utility bill).
If you have no IDs, write off that specific account's Marketplace feature and warm up fresh profiles properly to prevent hitting the trigger again. Hope that help

Great, I did read online that recently Meta started asking even existing sellers with long history, and many years of selling on MP to provide ID. Some reported, that's Id prompt disappeared after 2 weeks , of not posting anything on Marketplace. But that's for Aged accounts, for new account I would assume this indeed permanent, as you said.

Usually what's the safe time to warm up before attempting listing on MP, 1 week? 2 weeks? Or 1 month?

The sweet spot for warming up a fresh profile before listing on Marketplace is 14 to 21 days (2–3 weeks).
Simply waiting 1–2 weeks without activity won't work - you must simulate genuine buyer behavior during this time such as: browsing listings, saving items, and messaging local sellers.

Perfect, let me try for 3 weeks and see how things go.

If they indeed ask from ID, from your exprience, non govmrrnt IDs like work badge and utility bill are usually sufficient (high chance of acceptance) ? or they are really pushing for real ID?
