Do you still check pages that rank for the wrong keywords?

Checking GSC impressions for unexpected keywords is honestly one of the best low-hanging fruit strategies for content optimization.

My process usually comes down to 3 steps:

1. Search Intent check: I search the query to see what google is ranking top 3. If my current page matches that intent, I’ll naturally weave the keyword/ subtopic in or add a targeted FAQ section.
2. Cannibalization risk: I make sure no other page on the site is already targeting that query before making changes.
3. Dedicated page vs. Update: If the accidental keyword has solid volume, a distinct sub-intent, or commercial value, I build a separate sub-page and internal link to it rather than over optimizing the current page.

If it's just random low-relevance queries i leave it untouched. Forcing keywords often does more harm to existing rankings than good.

I normally check those keywords but i would not optimize the page for every unexpected query. If the keyword is closely related and fits naturally with the existing content i will expand the page a little. If it has a completely different intent i would either target it with a separate page or leave it alone rather than forcing it into the current one.

That’s basically what I do as well. If the intent is different, then forcing that keyword into the page is probably only going to harm it. It’s better to create another page if the intent warrants it.

I usually check the impressions first. If it keeps showing up, it may be worth targeting properly.
Yeah, if search console is showing good impressions even without any effort, then it actually means that Google itself wants to rank your content. Just try to optimize the title and put some context-based links.

If a page keeps getting impressions for the same unexpected topic, that can be a good sign that the site has some demand there.

I've noticed that some pages have impressions for keywords which I never rellay intended to target. What do you usually do – update the page with new keywords, or do nothing about it.
Yep, but I don't add every kwds If query closely related to the page and shows useful search intent, and imprve content to cover it naturally. If it’s random impression, just leave it rather than forcing kwds into the page.

I usually check whether those keywords are actually relevant to the page first if they match the search intent i may expand the content around them if they are unrelated id usually leave them alone rather than forcing extra keywords into the page.

If the keyword is relevant, I usually add it naturally to the page. If it’s unrelated or has different intent, I leave it alone and target it on a separate page if needed.

I tend to check whether there is any search intent behind the keyword in case the keyword is relevant then i would recommend updating the page otherwise i will do nothing.

Yes, I usually check those keywords because they can reveal useful search intent I missed. If they are closely related, I may update the content naturally. If they are unrelated, I normally leave them alone rather than forcing keywords.
