How I find relevant backlinks for my site, & how do you do it?

My first helpful post, go easy!

I run an adult site directory, and I've always struggled with finding backlinks other than using the big sites like ThePornDude to reach out to, but backlinks are so important in this niche, especially when trying to build out niches for seo benefits. They've always been a mess too. I've been caught out by speaking to people who don't actually control the site, and in swaps where I place my link and the other side never delivers, and just generally not getting responses.

For the last few days, I've been using a site called AnyBacklink; there seems to be a few adult sites on there, but I think the thing that stood out most for me was the ease of approaching sites and actually following through with swaps - a really nice flow.

What it does that I really like:

- Every domain is verified by a file, meta tag, or DNS, so you know the person you're talking to actually owns the site or has enough control to swap links.
- A swap request is clear: ******** or nofollow links, and you can accept, decline, or counter.
- Each swap has its own chat, making any issues easy. I had an issue with a site not loading (turns out it was my ad blocker), but I could speak to the guy quickly
- It checks that both links are live for you

And my favourite.... It's free.

Additionally, I'm interested to know: do you guys know any other similar swap sites I can use? And if you don't use them, why (other than organic requests)?

We had been using this:

Good service with quick responses to support and overall good platform.

Thanks, but I'm more interested in free tools/services. Many sites and founders like me don't have budgets to work with and, for the most part, are just trying their hand at building something online, like a side project, blog, or small business; this is where I'm at, and paid links are usually junk/dont work/gets discounted by Google, and I could probably think of a few other reasons not to pay for links. There have to be more sites available that are free?
