Hi BHW Members,

I wanted to share a SEO project where I grew a relatively website from 400 organic keywords to 3,600+ ranking keywords within 10 months.

I'll attach a screenshot of the keyword growth below.

Initial Stage:

When I started working on the website:

  • Organic Keywords: 300-400
  • Most pages were not indexed
  • No topical authority
  • Very little organic visibility
  • Low engagement on existing content
Instead of focusing on quick wins, I built a long-term content and topical authority strategy.

My Content Strategy:

The first step was conducting detailed keyword research and building topic clusters around the site's primary services.

Rather than targeting only high-volume keywords, I focused on:

  • Informational keywords
  • Long-tail keywords
  • Question-based searches
  • Commercial intent keywords
  • Comparison keywords
  • Industry-specific topics
Grouped all keywords into topic clusters and mapped them to pillar pages.

Content Production

For the next 10 months, consistently published content.

  • Around 10 blog posts every month
  • More than 100 SEO-focused blogs published
  • Every blog supported a specific pillar page
  • Strong internal linking structure implemented
Instead of creating random articles, every piece of content was strategically connected to a core service category and sub category pages.

This helped search engines understand the website's topical relevance.

E-E-A-T Optimization

Focused on demonstrating real experience, subject matter expertise, author credibility, and trustworthy content throughout the site.

Focused on:

  • Research-backed content reviewed for accuracy and search intent.
  • Real-world examples
  • Industry terminology
  • Author information
  • Supporting statistics
  • Proper citations where required
  • Comprehensive topic coverage
I avoided thin content and ensured every article answered user intent completely.

On-Page SEO Improvements

Each page included:

  • Optimized title tags
  • Keyword-focused H1 and H2 hierarchy
  • Semantic keyword usage
  • Image optimization
  • Internal linking
  • Schema implementation
  • FAQ sections
  • Improved readability
Also optimized and updated older blogs whenever new opportunities were identified.

Technical SEO Work

Technical SEO played a significant role in the growth.

Worked on:

  • Indexability issues
  • XML sitemap optimization
  • Robots.txt review
  • Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Mobile optimization
  • Broken link fixes
  • Redirect management
  • Improved crawlability and indexation efficiency.
  • Schema markup implementations
Making it easier for search engines to crawl and understand the website resulted in faster content discovery.

Internal Linking Strategy

One of the biggest contributors was internal linking strategy.

Every new article was connected to:

  • Relevant pillar pages
  • Related blog posts
  • Service pages
This distributed authority across the site and improved page discoverability.

Results After 10 Months

  • 3,600+ Organic Keywords Ranking
  • Improved keyword distribution across multiple topic clusters
  • Stronger topical authority
  • Better visibility for commercial-intent keywords
The biggest lesson from this project was that consistent publishing combined with strong topical clustering and technical SEO can generate substantial growth.

What Didn't Work

Not every blog performed well. Around 20% of the published content generated little to no traffic initially. Some topics required content updates and internal linking improvements before they started ranking.

Key Takeaways

  1. Build topic clusters instead of random blogs.
  2. Support pillar pages with relevant content.
  3. Publish consistently.
  4. Focus on search intent over keyword volume.
  5. Strengthen internal linking.
  6. Keep technical SEO clean.
  7. Continuously update existing content.
I'd be interested to hear how others are approaching topical authority and content clustering in 2026.

Thanks for reading.

nice growth. one thing i'd be curious about though is traffic/leads, not just total ranking keywords.

going from 400 to 3600 looks great but sometimes a lot of that growth ends up being queries sitting page 4-10 that barely send anything.

would be interesting to see how clicks/conversions changed and which 10-20 pages actually produced most of the growth. thats usually the part i'd use to decide what to double down on next.

Great question, and thanks for taking the time to read through the case study.

You're absolutely right that keyword growth alone doesn't tell the complete story. While I highlighted rankings in this post, the growth wasn't limited to organic keywords. Organic impressions, clicks, and overall traffic also increased significantly during the same period.

One interesting observation was that the results weren't distributed evenly across all published content. Relatively a group of pages, particularly those targeting commercial intent and high-relevance long-tail searches, contributed a large share of the traffic growth

I'm currently organizing the traffic, click, top-performing pages to put together another case study focused specifically on traffic growth and the pages that drove the strongest results. I'll be happy to share that in a separate thread soon.

The keyword growth was mainly a result of a structured content strategy, topical clustering, internal linking, and continuous optimization, which ultimately translated into improved visibility and traffic

Thanks again for the valuable feedback. I'll share the findings here once I've finished analyzing the data.—Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once I share the next case study.

This even gives me more motivation to continue with the project I have been working on for over a month now, which I started last month in August.

Almost everything you said you are doing or have done over time is what I’m doing as well and I’m starting to see some traction.

Reading about your journey almost made me feel like I’m looking into the future and can see the kind of growth waiting for me if I continue with what I have been doing since I started.

I really hope I will be able to keep up with it and by the end of the year, around December I can come back and share a journey like this one with positive improvements to show.

Wishing you more success to come.

I would say you have already crossed that stage of struggling now and the focus from here would be on stability and even more growth.

Cheers : )

Grew a website from 400 to 3,600+ ranking keywords in just 10 months.
The main focus was building topic clusters instead of publishing random blogs.I published 100+ targeted articles, improved internal linking, and fixed key technical SEO issues. Some content took time to rank, but regular updates and better search-intent alignment made a big difference. The biggest lesson: consistent, strategic SEO work compounds over time.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. It means a lot to know that the journey resonated with you.

The fact that you're already seeing traction after just a month is a great sign. Consistency made the biggest difference for me, so keep going and keep documenting the process.

When I started, I didn't see results immediately either. Most of the progress came from staying consistent during the periods when it felt like nothing was happening. Looking back, those small efforts compounded over time.

It sounds like you're already building strong momentum, and I'm looking forward to seeing your update in December and hearing about the progress you've made.

Wishing you continued growth and success on your journey!
