Hi everyone

I want to start blogging this month in 2026 but I am a complete beginner and do not have much experience with blogging.

I want to learn how to properly start a blog in 2026. What should I focus on as a beginner? How do I choose a niche what platform should I use and what are the important things I should learn before getting started?

I’d really appreciate any practical advice tips or resources from people who have experience with blogging.

You can proceed with one topic instead of writing about everything. Find out what people are searching for, write helpful articles, and improve them over time. Learn basic SEO, internal links, website speed, and analytics as you go.

Start with what you have passion for or love to write about. I would choose WordPress because it is easy to setup as for beginners and easy to understand. You should learn SEO to get traffic on Google everything is available on this forum and YouTube it's just that you need to dig in through. Good Luck!

do not design your website around google organic in 2026 tbf. rather, choose the type of monetization u would like to have nd go for the traffic via social/email.

It is preferable to select a niche where one can make money from experience. Build your mailing list early, do not just rely on google traffic.

Buy a cheap VPS, set up WordPress, and target long tail keywords. Don't rely solely on Google in 2026. Drive early traffic from Pinterest, Reddit, and Facebook while building an email list from day one.

as for picking a niche for ur first blog uh should not over think about it. choose something that u really know or like, post useful articles on it nd learn about SEO at the same time. after posting 10-20 posts ,u will definitelly understand what works.

before choosing the niche i'd try to write down 30-50 real problems/questions people in that niche have.

if i struggle to reach 30 without basically repeating the same thing, i'd probably skip it. if i can easily reach 50 and some of those problems also have commercial intent, thats a much better sign.

then i'd build the first 10-15 posts around those problems and let the early data decide what direction to expand into instead of planning 100 articles from day one.

Thanks everyone one thing I am still struggling with is niche selection. How do you actually find a niche with low competition but decent search volume? Do you use any specific tools or research method to validate the niche before starting?

You should focus on publishing great content, learning and doing proper internal linking and also once you're a bit experienced getting backlinks like guest posts/niche edits etc . About the niche I suggest to write about something you're passionate; about the platform, WordPress with elementor will suffice.

solid strategy in my opinion. generating traffic from multiple channels initially provides you with faster feedback and email list becomes an asset that you own.

Yeah, well, that tends to be a better way to go than randmly looking for niches. Market research shows you where the demand is, but your experience makes sure the content isn’t generic.
