Why can short-term Black Hat SEO results be difficult to maintain?

Why do short-term Black Hat SEO tactics often produce quick results but become difficult to sustain over time? This questionnaire explores factors such as algorithm updates, unnatural backlinks, ranking volatility, penalties, and the long-term risks of relying on manipulative SEO techniques.
Search engines keep updating their algorithm to be able to detect such behavior. Once they does either through manual action or through a new update ur rankings will just disappear overnight.

Aren't all short-term things difficult to maintain? Isn't that the point? Otherwise they wouldn't be short-term...

unnatural backlinks are probably the biggest weakness. you can get a boost but maintaining that profile without issues is another story.

i think volatility is the biggest issue. if the strategy depends heavily on manipulation you're always waiting for the next algorithm change.

i think another problem is the maintenance cost.

a method doesnt even need to get completely penalized to stop being worth doing. if you need 2-3x more links, content or work every few months just to hold the same position, eventually the economics stop making sense.

i'd measure how much effort/cost it takes to maintain the ranking over 3-6 months, not only whether the domain is still alive. sometimes the ranking survives but the method itself already became unprofitable.
