I do not love my job !!! ( 40 yrs old ) - Anyone on BHW who changed job at 40 ?

I’ve always been interested in things like hacking, networking, spamming, etc. I used to do some basic stuff when I was in my 20s and even made some money doing a few things back then. Then, one day, I decided to join a public-sector bank here in India.

I don’t make enough money, and honestly, I don’t enjoy my job either. I’m single and have plenty of free time. I’ve been trying to learn a few things, I just can’t seem to find someone who can push and motivate me to keep learning. I’m also wondering if maybe it’s my age.

I have enough time to do something on the side since my office hours are only 10 AM–5 PM. I’m thinking about learning Roblox programming, but I’m wondering if it’s even possible to start at my age and how many months it might take me to become reasonably good at it.

I don’t know much about programming apart from basic functions, variables, and some basic OOP.

Has anyone on BHW changed careers or jobs around the age of 40? I’d really like to hear your experiences.

Age is just a no look at warren as an example he started in 40s as well. And got successful what I see most is people focus on the outcomes first instead of enjoying and going through the process

With good health (maybe the right motives too) age itself isn't much of a barrier to many things
 
In my teens and early 20s, I did HTML web design.

In my late 20s to mid 30s, I did electrical engineering work on hospital equipment.

In my late 30s, I started a service-based repair company that now supports 8 full-time employees.

Today, in my early-mid 40s, I'm starting a few niche SaaS companies so I can eventually wind down the manual labor without making my staff my only source of income.

There's nothing wrong with pivoting careers as the world changes. Refusing to adapt is how you end up stuck when your career goes obsolete.

That's more coding knowledge than I had when I started on my latest SaaS project, I'd say you're in a pretty good position to move into something you enjoy.

Change is coming rapidly and most people will need to pivot careers over the next 5-20 years.

People working in the 50s, 60s, almost all those jobs are gone and they had to pivot or retire.

I myself need to pivot soon and still undecided the best way to go.
 
Honestly, I think age doesn't matters that much if it’s something you really want to learn. If you’re interested in it, just start. 40 is definitely not too old to try something new. Best of luck!
 
What you wish to do, just dive into it immediately. Age is not a matter. At the same time, don't get stuck with what you are not interested in because this is seriously not good for your mental peace or your work.

There are plenty of examples available of people who started and succeeded in their business at an old age, but you don't have to think about age.

Do you know Sanders, the founder of KFC, started his business at the age of 40? So, just start and don't worry about the rest of the things.

The issue is you are looking at others way younger than you who are doing well thereby pilling to much pressure on yourself because you are 40 and with very little to show. This is the right age to explore. Because you are now mature and have a balance of both morals and right judgement. And from your wanderings, I am sure you now know what can work and not work. Look at the little skills you have. Is it enough to start you something independent? If it's not, go into something you know has potential. I won't advise you to still go work for someone. You can be your own boss.
 
40s are the new 30s. You can very well change your jobs. But be prepared for a pay cut.
 
You're not the only 40 year old who is looking for a change. This will be a reality for everyone now, thanks to uncertain economy.

The only thing you need to do now is make a change but with careful planning.
 
There are very few people in the world who love and enjoy their job. Changing career/job at 40 is tough in India. You can start a side hustle, and if it gives enough money, you can leave your current job. You can start working on Roblox Studio in your spare time; give it some time and see if you can manage it.
 
never too late...a good friend of mine became a farmer with 46 after stop working for a software company... :D
 
It's because all companies worldwide like Alliance, Berkshire, Chubbi are all doing scams.... these all insurance companies are doing frauds. anyone who do Bing search can find that these insurance companies are scamsters.... there is no money left in world with people to purchase stuff. also govt in South of world in east and west of world has eaten every money from people as taxes over decades and year and govt employees filled there pockets and bank balance with money and produced generations of kids.

While rest of world and companies are bankrupt. who will you sell products to on the internet? go work in mcdonalds...

Also you don't love your Job because you're not close relative and nepo kid of CEO or chariman of Alliance company looting money from public by spreading scams in media and fake employees (wow what a fart by nepo kids lets clap in office of fake alliance group).

Go build relations with daughters or sisters of CEO and chairman of Bluechip companies of your country. only this way you will get great job.

I'm also experiencing the midlife crysis nearing my 40s. (yeah, you're too in case you didn't notice haha).

But don't worry about age too much. I'm 37. I'm interested in arts since ever and apart from doing a bunch of photography I never touched a pencil or brush in my life. 18 months ago I decided I wanted to do painting and I just started. Enrolled in class, started practicing and getting in love with it. Now I can already do some pretty decent paintings, got a few exhibited the other day, have some people interested in my work. Gifted some pieces to friends who loved it and have it hanged.

It's not ever too late for anything. Specially for work related stuff (which I'm myself a little lost as well). You got this! Regards.
