Do backlinks really work?

Hey, so everytime no matter what ai i ask when they analyze my sites they all come to the same conclusion:
When you buy backlinks google will classify them as spam and punish me.

So i was wondering what is your experience with buying backlinks, does it matter if you buy cheaper ones or more expensive?

According to Google guidelines buying backlinks is against the rules. But spammy, irrelavant backlinks would n't work no matter if you buy or gets them naturally. What matters most is the relevancy and good DA PA and if it is ******** that's also makes the backlink better
 
Price does not determine link quality. An expensive link can still be spammy if the site sells links widely, has unrelated content or no real audience.

Relevant editorial links from sites with genuine traffic are more valuable, but paid links always carry some risk under Google’s policies.
 
Backlinks can definitely work but I wouldn’t judge them by price. I’ve seen expensive links do very little and cheaper relevant placements perform better. What matters is where the link sits the site’s relevance, traffic and whether the overall profile looks natural.

Nah backlinks don't work we all have just been doing it since 90s for no reason.
 
95% of purchased back links are trash. If you don’t believe me take the last 10 you purchased and put them in Claude and ask Claude to review the sites in terms of outbound link counts and spam etc.

If Claude can work out they are trash, then Google easily can.

The only paid links that really work long term are on websites where they’re charging enough that most people won’t pay it so they’re outbound link activity looks quite normal.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t invest in back links. I’m just saying 1 or 2 quality back links a month is better than 20 easily detectable trash ones.
 
Buying a backlink doesnt automatically mean a penalty. I have had cheap links work and expensive ones do nothing. For me the site and context matter way more than the price.
 
Focus on relevance. real organic traffic, authority and natural placement rather than price and you know price does not determined the quality. Both cheap and expensive can work.
 
Jesus h Christ... I've got to say this is a first for me.

I'm used to NPC's offline coming at me with "but I asked ChatGPT and it said bla bla bla"

However.. this one takes the crown. A member on an SEO forum worried that links don't work within SEO now because an Ai told them "google will classify them as spam"

AND on top of that.. on a BH SEO forum.

I give up. Stop the world I want to get off!
 
Backlinks do still work, but it's risky. It is usually very hard to know if they are high or low quality before you buy them, but most of the time you can tell by looking at the sales thread and speaking to the seller. A big red flag is when they sell thousands of backlinks for super cheap and promising unbelievable results.
 
AI tools like Chatgpt are mechanical parrots. They tell you what they find on the internet. Google has policies in place to prevent link sellers promoting their services with a portfolio which would definitely encourage more people. It doesn't mean Google tracks you down to your sales history to give you a penalty for buying backlinks. In most cases, it's safe to buy backlinks. You might get caught if you leave clear footprints or the entire host network gets exposed.

Backlinks can still work. It’s less about cheap vs expensive and more about relevance, quality, and whether the site has real traffic. Avoid spammy bulk links.

Cheap and expensive does not better. Your focus should be quality which can fall in any of previous two category. I always suggest to buy SEO from trusted sellers only who are in business from some years because they will never under perform because it ruins their reputation which took them years to build.

You need a review by a professional seo provider instead of these AI tools.

the backlink work just right, but blind purchase are those that affect people negatively. In fairness, it is better to check thing out yourself than rely on an AI notification.
 
Price doesnt really tell you if a backlink is good, check the website, traffic and how natural the link looks.
 
They work, yes - if they meet certain criteria of quality, authority, and relevance.

Yeah, same here. Once a campaign starts to get crazy with intent, it makes more sense to scale horizontally rather than increase the budget drastically for one pmax campaign.
