US political posts carry the highest engagement weighting in X's open-source recommendation algorithm right now. Unless you manually change your content preferences location and block major political news accounts directly, the system will keep pushing high-velocity political threads into your feed

muted words dont block that topic everywhere on X, they mainly work on the home timeline and notifications

Muted words don't apply to ads or posts from accounts you follow that retweet or quote-tweet political topics. go to Content You See under Privacy Settings, uncheck the political interest tags X automatically assigned to your profile, and clear your search history so the feed stops pulling political recommendations

the "For You" feed completely ignores muted words when it comes to viral US trends. if you want to fix your timeline, switch over to the "Following" tab and change your Explore location in Settings to a country with zero political noise
