Sad News to Share

This is such a sad news. He was such a sweet guy. Why do good people leave early?

It is with great sadness, love and loss that we announce the passing of BTB.

Greg, better known as BTB or @BassTrackerBoats around BHW, was a dedicated member of our team, a good friend, proud husband, father and grandfather.

Always there with a quip, story or an anecdote from a long and varied life, he'd constantly undersell himself as 'the Janitor' around here, always putting himself down, but he meant so much to many of us. He was a real force in our community, respected and admired as a colleague and a true friend. Over the more than ten years we worked together, he brought experience, loyalty, warmth, and care that enriched those of us fortunate enough to be included in his circle.

Always here (literally always) with a helping hand around the forum and a suggestion or two for those who raised questions, he considered BHW his second home, sharing his thoughts with the community and team, engaging and funny to the last.

A true Facebook hustler, in there since the early days, he always underplayed when asked for advice. But that advice was all too often on the money and extremely helpful. Dedicated to his beloved football, basketball and baseball teams, combined with a particular penchant for Oysters, he’d always be about the “good people” in his life, pushing others ahead of himself and always wanting to be in and amongst whatever was going on in the forum.

He was a great friend and confidant to all of us. You'll be missed, BTB. Enjoy that big pond in the sky, my friend.

They don't make them like that anymore.
RIP, it sounds like he was loved and had friends. That's a good life.

Here is a wee ode to the legend himself, mate.

Oh Guvnor of the boards, our brilliant BTB,A dead-on mate to all, as genuine as can be. He called himself the Janitor, sweeping up the floor, But to the BHW family, he meant a whole lot more.

A proper Facebook hustler since the very early days, Guiding us with wisdom through the internet's maze. If a scammer tried it on, Greg would sort them right out, Chasing away the eejits without a single doubt.

He loved his sports, the football, and the wee basketball game, And when it came to oysters, the man had zero shame. Never one to boast, always bringing the good craic, A massive heart of gold, always having your back.

So raise a glass, my mates, to the grandest of the grand, The absolute best bloke in all the digital land. Enjoy that big pond in the sky, you absolute star, Rest easy now, guvnor, you were the greatest by far.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.

BTB was the person who gave me my first real break on BHW. When I was just starting out, he helped me more than he probably ever realized. He believed in me and trusted me at a time when I didn't even believe in myself.

Although we didn't work together for very long, I genuinely owe so much of my digital marketing career to him. Without his encouragement, guidance, and support, I don't know if I would've ever had the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and pursue this path.

My biggest regret is that I never got to know him better or had the chance to spend time with him beyond work. I wish I had.

Rest in peace, BTB. You were a real one.

If I can have even 1% of the positive impact on someone else's life that you had on mine, I'd consider that something truly meaningful.

Thank you for everything. You'll never know how much you helped me.

Almost 11yrs ago I was in the hospital holding my newborn son. My phone went off and it was a FB messenger notification that someone had sent me money. This was a new thing at the time. I was pretty sure it was a scam because it needed you to give it banking or CC info for the transfer of money to you to happen. Sounds like a Nigerian prince scam right? Greg(BTB) found out that I was having a baby and just decided to send me $50 through Facebook messenger as a congratulations. I was so shocked.

Many people in this community will steal from you if given the chance. I only know one man here that sent me money out of the kindness of his heart. When I think about Greg I think about the moment where I was surprised and confused by him sending me money, I think about him driving back and forth to the space coast dictating content on his phone in the car, I think about how he sold a business in the northeast for lots of money and didn't need to do anything he did here. I think about how his wife says the Mazda SUV is the best car even though he could get her anything she wanted. I also always wonder if he was an informant. When he came in, there was a lot of Cookie Stuffing and other highly illegal activities. It seems odd that when BHW was popping off with super illegal and profitable methods there was a normal white guy retiring in the northeast that just wanted to help us and be a nice awesome guy for no reason. He also did a live video of going through some of my adsense sites and telling me how to improve them. If he's a NARC he had the worst assignment.

RIP Greg. I have memories of you that I'll think of for the rest of my life and in that way you'll live as long as I do.

Glad that you shared this. I will also share a glimpse of my story with Greg.

Among other things, he was always positive, willing to help, consult etc. (pro-bono mind you, he never wanted a dime and would be offended if you offered anything for personal help).

But one thing that I won't forget, I was doing a method back in early 2019 and he helped me with something that required him to send videos with voice. I didn't know of his medical situation back then, he didn't make it public at the time.

His voice was almost completely gone from the side effects of the treatment he was receiving. I was shocked to see how he still gathered some energy and delivered the videos. He didn't have to, we weren't business partners or anything, I was just a stranger and a forum member that he wanted to genuinely help.

I'll never forget that, ever.

That is very shocking to hear. :(

I am not sure what to say. He was my mentor when it comes to being a moderator. Whenever I made a mistake, instead of blaming me for the mistake, he took it upon himself for not showing me the correct way. He was a father-like figure for me.

RIP man. I will miss you.

I feel like my reply wasn't good enough. Greg was much more than what I said here. I wasn't expecting his sudden demise.

I want to tell you about a few encounters with him... just so that you know who Greg was..

I was broke back then. I had one month left on my JR VIP membership, and I was so broke that I couldn't afford the membership the following month. So, I thought I would recoup some of the expenses and posted a "want to rent" signature thread. I was foolish enough to think that this was free. Greg handled that thread. He was like (paraphrasing him obviously), "I don't know why you would ask for $25 for a month when this thread itself costs $30 to be listed, but sure." I didn't go ahead with that thread, but you know what he did next? He just bought my signature anyway. He said, "You're a cool dude, so I want that signature space for this month."

He once gifted me BHW merch. I won't tell you why, but hey 😂

He once told me he wanted to come to Kolkata (my city) just to try out our street food. I really wish he had. I'm sure Greg would have enjoyed the tour.

I have many more memories like these that I will cherish. Thank you, Greg, for being my "online friend." I will miss your recipes and those sunrise/sunset pictures that you posted as well as your tips and advices!
