How do you decide when a page has "enough" internal links, or is there no real ceiling?

Some pages seem to benefit from more internal links pointing to them; others seem to plateau or even feel over-optimized past a certain point. Curious whether you go by a rough number, page authority, or something else entirely.

No real fixed number. I’d add links where they’re actually useful and relevant, then stop once adding more doesn’t improve navigation or the site structure.

Relevance matters more than hitting a certain link count.

What changed it for me was working out that only the first link to a URL on a page counts for anchor text, so three links to the same destination in one article is two doing nothing. Stopped counting links after that and started counting destinations.

There’s no formula for this number for me. I evaluate the topic relevance, importance of a page, established authority, and natural link flow.

It helps me to reinforce priority pages without forcing the link structure.

Yes, some pages benefit from good amount of internal links which they receive from its natural architecture. The best option is to get the webpages audited with the help of good audit tool. Creating a new good website with proper internal strategy help optimize the webpages in search results for rankings.

for myself, it is not so much about the links that i see but whether there is an internal linking pattern within the page. if the same target is getting links from completely unrellated areas of the site i would rather just leave it alone than put another link where it does not fit.
