Not all long-time members are qualified to be mods.

Modding isn't just a matter of clearing spam, mods are expected to be the voice of BHW itself. That's a much higher standard than any other status or badge.
 
I took a break from this forum for months when i realized that BHW mods were openly allowing scammers with bought accounts (100 posts) to sell AWS accounts ($400/account) with crypto just because these scammers kept coming back which benefited BHW owner with jr vip or marketplace seller subscriptions
 
I get why people are defensive about the forum. it survived every "forums are dead" prediction, and it's still the best archive of IM knowledge on the internet. But "still standing" and "still worth paying for" are two different things, and I think people conflate them because the brand meant something to them once.

What I'd push back on slightly is the idea that it's all malice. I don't think there's some master plan to bury disputes or keep Marketplace 2.0 in development forever. I think it's simpler than that, the site outgrew the people who actually understood it, and now the incentives run the other way. Bots, AI slop, and signature-rental all inflate the numbers you're supposed to show to advertisers. Real members with strong opinions lower them. Do that math and you see why the feedback section looks like a place where good threads go to get polite non-answers.

There have been major rug pulls by VERY OLD members here too.

IM is akin to swimming in the sewers. You end up smelling shit.

Some new sellers are scammers, while some old sellers are looking to rug pull and call it a day.

All over the place moderation:
Creating a similar post asking for a similar service gets you a warning ( 1 strike point), while there are already 2-3 similar posts already live in WTB and HAF and you cannot say "we didn't see it and you need to report it to help out" no that is not how it works in that section... since someone of you approved the post in the first place that has been up for months.


And if you ask why you got the warning and send proof. It gets escalated to the support ticket system which sucks. Since admin/mod initiated a DM chain first. So answer there, why do you want to do it off platform..

Something I've also posted before is that some rules should be bent for senior members.

You cannot apply the same rule to the guy with 50 posts and the guy who joined 10 years ago. From a business standpoint, it's just not right. Popular members get the forum going.

If I ran a popular forum I'd only really ban scammers, not members who say openly their opinions, even if political or religious sometimes, it should not be that strict. The rules are too rigid. The forum needs to relax a bit so things can get going.

Sometimes you literally get a warning by sneezing.

If we have the same laws for 25 year old and 70 year olds, I see no reason to have a different set of rules for newbies and senior members.
Having (not to mention enforcing) 2 sets of rules adds a lot of friction instead of removing it, you can't discourage new member from wanting to participate in the way they see other members behaving.
 
Trade section needs to remain, I heard a while ago that they want to remove it...nah, keep it public, the worst kind of humans on this forum are being exposed there, if they really remove it, then it's the final censorship

Look at those feedbacks a few days ago. 1 dispute approved per month.
10 scams per day on Trade.

There was even a "human being" mocking BTB death, imagine the kind of creature doing that. Disgusting. Too many scammers and scumbags per square meter.
