Google rankings and AI citations are becoming two different SEO goals.

Lately, I’ve tested Niche relevant PBN links for AI citations and seen some positive results on the campaign. but I’m not sure how consistently it works across other different niches and campaign plans. Has anyone else here tested niche-relevant, contextual PBN links specifically for AI visibility in 2026?

if any share your experience, interested to hear what niche you worked and whether the impact improved rankings. is the campaign succeed?

I have also tested some niche relevant, high quality pbn placements and saw positive results with ai citations. from what I have seen, relevance, context, and placement quality seem to matter more than simply using a pbn.
 
Google rankings can be influenced by link signals, while AI citations usually require content that clearly answers questions and appears reliable. I would focus on strong topical content, real mentions, and relevant editorial links rather than relying only on PBNs.

I’ve seen some interesting results from niche-relevant placements, but I wouldn’t say PBNs consistently improve AI citations yet. I’d track AI citation frequency, which URLs get cited, branded searches, rankings and referral traffic separately. Otherwise it’s hard to know whether the PBN itself caused the improvemen

I'm yet to try PBNs for that but I would assume if you rank well as a result of PBNs and your content decent attention, it's only natural that your site's AI citations increase especially citations from Google.

my thoughts exactly so i focus more on building a strong, recognizable brand and creating content that directly answers what people are searching for. AI citations seem more likely to come from useful, trustworthy sources than simply relying on PBNs.
 
Exactly. the quality and topical relevance matter than the fact that it’s a PBN.

A PBN is just the delivery method, the real difference comes from how relevant the site is, how naturally the link is placed, and the quality of the content around it. That’s why I focus more on topical fit and placement quality than simply chasing domain metrics.

I’ve seen niche relevance help with overall authority, but I wouldn’t assume PBN links directly cause AI citations. AI visibility seems more dependent on topical relevance, source credibility, and strong supporting content.
I’d test PBNs against normal contextual links and track both rankings and citations separately.

yep, i’ve tried some PBNs this year where niche relevance and contextual links were followed by improvements in both rankings and ai visibility.
 
I would separate correlation from causation here, because AI citations seem to respond more consistently to clear entities, trusted mentions and corroborated facts than PBN links alone.
 
I' hae witnessed niche-relevant contextual links boosting both rankings and AI visibility, yet I don't think that the PBN was solely responsible for the citation. It's probably that PBN links enhanced authority, crawl frequency, and topical relevance, and those things then contributed to the increased odds of citation.
 
Great topic. Traditional PBNs might not hold the same weight if AI is directly citing sources from authoritative knowledge graphs instead of just standard rankings
 
I’ve seen niche relevance and contextual placement matter more than just the PBN metric when testing for AI visibility. Results seem to vary by niche, though so I’d treat AI citations as a separate signal and track them alongside Google rankings.
