pick one simple service you can learn fast and focus on getting the first person to pay you even $20 for it

Focus on learning skills first. Meanwhile you can find some VA jobs that require no skills like data entry or something similar.

Yeah absolutely. There are so many ways to make $500 USD online. For example if you know a big business that you trust and you refer people to those businesses, then you easily make $500 USD a month. Another example would be to go and work for someone or offer a service. On a forum like this on BlackHatWorld you can offer a service and you can easily get to $500 USD per month. Also I would suggest you look at the IM journeys section. That's going to give you more of an idea about what people are doing to make a lot of money
