Been out of work for a year and feeling stuck. Need some honest advice from veterans on where to focus.

Hey guys,

I’ve been unemployed for a year and things are getting desperate. I’m not asking for handouts, I just need advice from veterans on how to get my foot in the door. I’m hungry and willing to do the grunt work nobody else wants to do.

Here is what I actually know how to do:

  • IG Farming: I know the backend grind. I can set up, warm, and manage accounts safely using GeeLark.
  • Media Buying: Google Ads & GA4 certified. I know the setup, but being 100% honest: zero live client spend yet.
  • Customer Support: Ticket management and client communication.
My questions:

  1. How do I find agencies that just need a reliable guy to handle their tedious backend IG farming?
  2. How do I get someone to take a chance on a media buyer with certs but no live spend? I don't even care about starting pay.
Any tough love or direction helps.

(Mod note: Strictly looking for career advice on how to pitch myself not offering services or soliciting jobs!)

i would probably focus on 1, then try to upsell them on how they can get more reach if they give you a small budget to test on, then can use that as reference or proof for other clients.

what have you done to try and get clients/jobs for the ig farming side of things? have you done any outreach?
 
Have you looked on job sites and seen the requirements of jobs there? Thats a good place to brush up your cv. as your skills right now are exactly why your stuck. They are poor person common skills. Nothing new or out of the ordinary in terms of achievement. (otherwise you would be found already?)

so brush up your cv, change the skill language and skill sets to suit many jobs you can do in general from where the people actually hiring and looking for, and apply for them everywhere you see them. Make multiple cover letters to suit and easily chance when people are requesting it.

@bonzo90 Good call on the upsell angle. To clarify on the outreach: I actually am doing cold outreach every single day on Telegram and Ukrainian and russian jobs boards. I pitch myself for both farming and media buying (I'm fully certified in Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, and DV360).

The roadblock is that even in Telegram DMs, people gatekeep the media buying without live spend proof, or they already have a dedicated in-house farming guy. Am I targeting the wrong people? Are there specific types of affiliates or networks I should be scraping for leads instead?
 
You should look for getting back to 9 to 5 job and get your financial situation together.
That is your best option.
Making money online can take sometime.
Out of 3 skills you have, 1st and 3rd can work for you.

@Panther28 Understood. I will start looking at job sites today to update my CV with the right language and prepare those cover letters. Thank you for taking the time to share this advice with me.

@IM Dude Thanks for the reality check. You're absolutely right about getting stable first, and I am actively applying for local 9 to 5s right now.

While I keep hunting locally, where is the best place to find people hiring for those IG Farming or Customer Support roles you mentioned? I want to keep pushing on those two in the meantime.
