VPN+4G Proxy on Phone?

If you have a cell phone, how easy is it to setup both a VPN and a 4G proxy on it, forcing all apps through both?

To where Phone>VPN>Proxy>Internet.

Thus ensuring more anonymity than just via proxy. To where social media/apps only get your proxy IP, which would only lead back to a VPN IP from there.

Is this possible? Is it easy?

Can't chain at app layer on a phone. Travel router or rooted with iptables, +100-200ms.

Default VPN settings are broadcasted across all the apps. Any app can just do 1 simple non elevated call to ask if the VPN is active/running or not. So that is a no go.

Turning on a second vpn just kills the first one on a phone, so you cant really run both at the same time. Youd to route the proxy through the vpn in one config but in any case apps can still get information about your phone from os

Damn, interesting. Also, what is a non-elevated call to ask if the VPN is active/running? What happens then? If it is or isn't running, and has its killswitch on, can any app find the real IP?

How would you guys use a 4G proxy for apps on the phone but also hide your real IP from the proxy provider, using a VPN? Is a VPN on a router the only way to go?

Yeah, it’s possible, but you usually can’t just turn on a VPN app and a proxy app and expect them to chain automatically. You’d need a VPN client that supports an upstream proxy, or set it up through a router. Android gives you more options for this; on iPhone it’s more restricted.

If it’s configured correctly, apps will see the 4G proxy IP, and the proxy provider will see the VPN IP. But it’ll add latency and won’t necessarily make you much more anonymous. Social apps can still use GPS, SIM info, timezone, device fingerprinting and account activity to identify you.
