i would consider authenticity to be the defining aspect of a linkedIn profile. rather than loading up every single area of ur profile with generic keywords, tell the world what you do and have done in real life. u only need a few real accomplishments for a profile to become credibble.

imo the profile is more professional if it sounds like a person rather than an embellished résumé. A gd headline, concrete results and some evidence were always better than a fancy banner.
 
a clear headline, professional photo, and a short summary that shows what you actually do make the biggest difference. add specific results to your experience instead of just listing duties, and keep the profile updated.
 
and is invisible to normal visitors. To make your LinkedIn profile look more professional, you should include a headshot of yourself in a work environment, as well as a resume and portfolio of your previous work.
 
at the very least have a few legitimate connections with people you know, then go from there
 
set up your profile picture you use and the connections you build can all affect how professional your linkedin profile looks
