I've been experimenting with using expired domains purely for 301 redirects rather than rebuilding them.

The results are mixed. Anyone have a solid framework for evaluating which domains are safe to redirect?

check wayback first, if the domain changed niche or was parked/spam at some point drop it. topical relevance to your site matters more than DR. and redirect page to page, not everything to the homepage, thats where most of the mixed results come from.

I tried that too, the results were more negative than positive. I came to conclusion that it's better just rebuilt them.

Its hit or miss for me, I mostly just set up the site and let it sit sometimes 12 months ish even sites that didnt show up for exact match then get pulled back into serps, been a few years now tho and its mostly the same shit for my expired again rank very shortly then drop into oblivion, will see in a couple months if they turn around

I did try this before by buying a expired domain from a seller here, and in that case it did work, i seen an increase in the DR and the rankings for the site
