the amount that helped from fixing the search intent was more than i expected. there was one particular page that had good content but was not answering the queries the visitors were looking for. the only thing that i did to it was fix the layout nd focus on the querry.

Same here. High-quality internal links are very important, especially those which link between pages that have a close relationship, with good anchor text. I always try to find out which pages already receive traffic, and then link from there.

For me it was improving the site speed. It resulted in the website visitors spending more time on my websites and thus Google rewarded me with more higher rankings.

Fixed orphan pages by linking them internally, a few started ranking within weeks after sitting invisible for months.

Most strong seo signals will be with a standalone blog (not all on one domain) and the default flat next and back linking, not more, not deep silo (crawl waste)
