As a rule, I try to test any product before buying it. And proxies are no exception, since their performance can be much worse than expected. So what checks would you perform on a free trial before purchasing a proxy service?
A free trial doesn't guarantee 100% that everything will work perfectly later, but it can reveal obvious problems right away. For example, if the speed is poor or ips come form a different operators than expected, you can usually identify that during testing.
free trial is enough to rule a provider out pretty quickly, but not really enough to prove it will stay good long term. run the same workload you actually plan to use later, at roughly the same concurrency, and log success rate, latency, timeouts and HTTP errors over more than one time window. well, i think that way at least

Focus on checking IP quality, detection flags, speeds, and Google location. Trial results aren't a 100% guarantee for future quality, but at least you'll know whether to buy and what scale you need.
On a trial I'd check that the IP type and location are what they say (mobile/residential lookup plus a DNS and WebRTC leak test), then run speed and ping tests at different times of day instead of trusting one result. Leave it running for as long as the trial allows to see real uptime and how often it drops or rotates when you didn't ask it to, and message support with a question to see how fast and how useful the answer is. Then slowly build up the amount of proxies you have with the seller you choose
a free trial is good for ruling out a bad provider, but it won’t show you how the service performs long term. I test it on the target site at different times and mainly watch the success rate, speed and connection errors. I also check how the rotation and sticky sessions behave. One important question is whether the trial and paid plans use the same pool
