I have seen many websites getting ban only in 2026 I was wondering if it is because of bad SEO or is it because of google updates

Mostly aggressive link schemes and AI-generated content at scale getting caught in the recent spam updates. Google's gotten a lot better at detecting unnatural link patterns and thin/duplicate content, so sites that used to get away with it are getting hit now.

Because people do blackhat stuff. When Google catches a user doing blackhat techniques to promote his/her sites Google penalized the sites. You should only use blackhat techniques if you want to grow your sites super fast, but these techniques will not last long if you're discovered.

Banned from where?

Oh, Google? Prolly cuz ur not spending enough on adwords I guess :p

A lot of sites are getting hit because they rely too heavily on scaled AI content, expired domains, spammy links, or content created mainly to manipulate rankings. Google has become better at detecting these patterns, so quality and real user value matter more now.

its usually about aggressive link building, thin or low-quality content, over-optimization, hacked/spammy pages, or major technical issues.

Yes, I have observed the same thing. It is not the AI aspect that makes it easy for a website to get detected, but rather the mass quantity of poor quality content and link footprints that are artificial in nature.

I have really not observed any obvious bans, what I have noticed is however is a drop in ranking which has been reported across a lot of platforms especially after the famous August update.

not everyone who get demoted in rankings is automatically blocked from search results. from what I believe, there are numerous website which are being penalized due to their poor content or becuz of too much spamming.

Check for copied or outdated content too. Some older pages may lose visibility when better content starts ranking.

Most website drops are not because of one single google update. Usually it's a mix of things like low quality content, agressive SEO tactics, poor user experience or not keeping up with search changes. Google updates often just expose existing weaknesses.

Right. Core updates don’t randomly affect healthy sites; they’re just a re-assessment of quality signals. It’s mostly accumulated debt from overzealous use of automation, poor user experience or irrelevant intent matching.

Google has rolled out several substantial spam updates throughout 2026, each specifically targeting manipulative SEO tactics. It is, therefore, a genuine combination of both suboptimal SEO practices and increasingly strict algorithm enforcement.

Usually it’s not simply 'a Google update.' Drops can come from spam signals, poor content, technical issues, or algorithm changes. A manual action is different and will normally appear in Search Console.
I’d check the specific pages and Search Console data before blaming an update.

Good point. Looking at the actual pages and Search Console data gives much more context than assuming every ranking drop is caused by a Google update.

Looks like Google isn’t the only one banning things in 2026... even the OP got banned before we could answer ;):(
