Does website traffic matter more than domain metrics when choosing backlinks?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been learning about link building and noticed that people often focus on metrics like DR and DA when evaluating websites.

But I’m wondering how important actual organic traffic is compared with these metrics.

If a website has good DR and DA but very little organic traffic, would you still consider it a good backlink opportunity?

Which factors do you personally check first when evaluating a website?

Would be interested to hear different opinions.

Relevance and traffic would be a priority for me rather than DR/DA. Good metrics without good rankings or traffic will be quite deceiving, which is why I would look at the website’s keywords, traffic trend, content quality, and outlinks first.
 
check the actual page where your link will be placed, because a strong domain does not mean that every page on it is useful.
 
Traffic number itself actually matters very little for passing raw link power.

It only matters for:
  • measuring health of the website
  • directing that traffic to your backlink and clicking through to your website

traffic, and also the page not the domain. good DR site gave me a link on a page that never got indexed, so it was nothing. now i check the page, not the site

Indeed, there might be a huge discrepancy between the domain’s DR and the metrics of the particular page. Before considering this link valuable, I would see if it is indexed and receives organic traffic.
 
Traffic matters more than DR to me - a high DR site with barely any visitors usually means its own link profile isn't clean either.

Traffic is very important. Relevance, authority, and DR/DA are also among the references.
 
I’d check organic traffic and relevance before DR or DA A site can have good metrics but still not be very useful if it has little real traffic or is full of unrelated links
 
Exactly. A high DA or DR doesn’t mean much without real traffic and topical relevance. The quality and context of the site matter just as much as the metric itself.
