In analyzing the qualities of the backlink, I consider all the signals together, such as relevancy of topic, organic traffic and its growth, ranking keywords, quality of the referring domain, backlink profile, indexation, quality of content, relevancy of page and placement of the link.

For instance, I would prefer a medium-DR website with stable relevant organic visibility and clean profile over a high-DR website with authority that is not related to my niche.

This topic has been created multiple times, the consensus remains the same; DR/DA or any third-party metric similar to it, should not be considered above actual signals like organic traffic from relevant keyword.

That is true, yet the objective of any discussion does not aim at introducing something that has never been seen before.

It aims at seeing how people feel about the subject matter now, whether their views are the same or if they have changed since then.

If its clear from the outset, well then that's precisely what the discussion was intended to accomplish namely, to find out if there is a different way of looking at the facts.

I would not choose a backlink based only on DR or traffic. I look at relevance, organic visibility, referring domain quality, content, indexation, backlink profile, and link placement. A relevant site with real traffic is often the better choice.

My guiding principle has always been to build for the future rather than chasing daily algorithm shifts. True wisdom lies in looking past vanity metrics and making structural decisions that the next owner of the asset will love.

A clean profile with real, relevant traffic survives any change, and building with that discipline ensures long-term value that keeps us grounded. Mental thumb up. :)

I agree. I’d also prioritize relevance and actual organic visibility over DR alone. A medium-DR site with relevant traffic, good content, and a clean backlink profile can be much more valuable than a high-DR site that has little connection to your niche.

Agreed on all fronts, especially the referring domain relevancy part too many campaigns still buy links purely on DR/DA and wonder why nothing moves.
Traffic growth trend is underrated shows the domain is not just sitting on old authority Good checklist overall.

Yehh, I agree. DR can be an effective tool for analysis however, the traffic profile of the link itself is indicative of its true value as a backlink.

I think most important for backlinks is traffic rather than DR. From traffic we see actual audience and visibility that traffic come from which relevant country. DR is supporting metrics

Organic traffic usually matters more than DR when choosing backlinks because it shows real search visibility.
However, prioritize relevance + organic traffic + authority rather than DR alone.
A relevant, high-traffic DR 40 site can be more valuable than an unrelated DR 70 site.

Absolutely right. Traffic and DR are just filters.

Relevance, authority of the page, organic visibility, indexing, and contextual placement make a real SEO value of the link.

Absolutely. Long-term SEO is constructed through relevance, trust, and compounding authority not chasing algorithms or meaningless metrics.

This is how you create value that will last.

Indeed. DR is merely an indicator; in itself it does not mean much.

I would prefer the following criteria to be considered first rather than just a high DR in the absence of any relevance.

Absolutely. Relevant referring domains + traffic trend is much more powerful than DR/DA alone.

A negative traffic trend will reveal a domain that may look like an authority only on paper.

Traffic quality matters too. A site can have good traffic numbers, but if most of it comes from countries or keywords unrelated to your niche, I would be careful about it.

look at what keywords the site ranks for too. high DR is not very useful if the rankings are for unrelated topics.

Organic traffic comes first and foremost.
