What actually helped you grow on YouTube?

I’d love to hear some real experiences from other creators. Was it better thumbnails, more consistent uploads, improving retention, SEO, or something completely unexpected? I’ve seen channels grow after making one small change, while other strategies barely made a difference.

What was the biggest thing that helped your channel?

Everything you said is necessary, but there's another difference: the specific nature of your video. It needs to be engaging to be effective. If your video isn't high-quality, then everything you've said won't lead to success.
 
The biggest change was understanding what my audience actually wanted. I stopped making random videos and focused on topics that had already shown interest, and the channel started growing much more steadily.

what shocked me was how important the choice of topics was.it happened that even if i produced a well edited video, my performance was not good but when i touched on something that ppl needed, the reaction was totally different.the choice of an appropriate topic nd its subsequent good packkaging is more effective than more uploads.

Mostly people have method to boost video

If video got 50 plus view first 30 minutes it's mean your video is best and nest video got more video than previous
But how to get initial view
This is method
 
YT shows first as with all social platform algos your video to a small audience , when they not engage, then the video will not rank.
By the way learn the yt seo skills it's not hardy you can learn from Homozi or from Sunny Lenarduzzi (free), but that's too much work for you....

Seo is 5% matter
If your video got view from suggestions initially then there's chance to get viral for long-form content
 
But you don't know darkside of YouTube
When you need anything then you search otherwise no
Then view are from search
Most of people don't search and open yt and start to watch
Searching only work for tech channel only

IMO posting consistently and creating and uploading 1 to 2 shorts per day can help you grow fast and consistently.
 
Posting regularly, improving thumbnails, and learning what my audience actually enjoys slowly started moving the needle.

Improving retention made the biggest difference. Once people started watching more of each video, the channel gradually got more impressions and views. Thumbnails helped too, but keeping viewers interested was the real game changer.

For growing your YouTube,firstly you have to make good contents consistently.You have to focus on your thumbnails,captions video range more carefully.Try to make interesting content that attracts people.
 
for me, improving retention made the biggest difference. better thumbnails helped get the click, but if people dropped off early, growth was still limited.
once I improved the first 60–180 seconds and tightened the pacing, the same topics started performing much better.
 
I don't have a channel, but as a frequent viewer, I prioritize thumbnails over other factors, an engaging thumbnail piques my curiosity and makes me want to watch.

Yeah, I agree. I think it’s easy to get too focused on SEO and forget that the audience is what actually drives a video. If you pay attention to what people are searching for, watching, and engaging with, it becomes much easier to create content that gets views naturally.
 
For me the biggest difference came from improving the first 30-60 secs. I used to focus too much on SEO and uploading consistently but The retention was what really made the difference.
