Everyone here talks about getting reviews and spotting the fake ones. Makes sense, thats where the money is but I keep finding reviews sitting on directory profiles nobody ever claimed. Three or four stars, written years ago, on a listing the business doesnt know exists. Some of them are bad ones.

Had a client last month with a two star review from 2021 on a profile they'd never seen. No way to reply to it because they didnt own the listing.

Anyone else go looking for these or is it just me?

I usually check where the reviews are showing up. The site and its traffic matter more than just having a high number of reviews.

Yeah, I think it’s worth checking, especially for local businesses. I’d search the brand name + reviews and the brand name + city, then look through the first page or two for old directory profiles that are actually visible

Yeah it’s certainly worth checking, we all know they can be gamed and also used negatively by shady competitors, it’s still good to suss them out.. some may be rebuttable or some won’t like you say.

Brand name works if the profile has the right name on it, half the ones I find are under an old trading name or a misspelling so I search the phone number instead and thats usually where the ugly ones are hiding.

yeah still worth checking them out.we all know these things can manipulated and even used by shady competitors but some cases worth challenging.like you said some can rebutted while others probably cant.

Even some top builders in LA didn't claim the citations their SEO agency built like 10 years ago. We tried our level best to claim everything, but still some left.

I remember one incident that happened 3-4 years ago: one of my clients realized that one negative review in Foursquare is stopping more business. Later, we claimed the profile and took down that negative review.

Yeah thats the bit that gets me, the ones you cant claim are almost always the ones the agency set up on their own email. Ten years later nobody knows the address or the password, and the directory wants you to prove you own an inbox that hasnt existed for years.

its worth looking into them anyway.these things can manipulated or even used against business by competitors.some might possible to challenge while others may just have to stay there.
