Do Reddit Comments Matter More Than Upvotes?

Hi everyone,
Sometimes a post gets a lot of comments but not many upvotes, while others get plenty of upvotes with little discussion.
Which do you think is a better sign that a Reddit post is genuinely valuable?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Better for brand awareness, quick reach, and viral exposure. This usually happens with easily digestible content . People agree and scroll past, giving it high algorithmic momentum to hit r/all or feed tops.

I think, I'd say upvotes are the stronger signal of value, while comments show engagement. A post with lots of upvotes usually means people found it useful or worth seeing, whereas comments can sometimes come from controversy or disagreement. Ideally, you want both.

Depends what you’re posting. Questions should probably get comments, while guides and useful resources might get more upvotes.

No, upvotes matter more than comments. In some discussions where you noticed it might be an exception but that's not the standard.

Comments show real engagement, upvotes are easier to farm and often mean quick agreement, not depth.

I wouldn’t judge a post from just one number. I’d also look at what people are actually saying in the comments before deciding how well the post did.
