How do you track if a backlink is still live a mnth later?

Not talking abt the initial placement, more like on going monitoring - do you manually check every few mnths or use a tool for this
had a few links had removed/nofollowed after a site redesign without me even knowing untill i randomly chcked , curious if theres a better system for catching this early.

A quick check in Ahrefs or Search Console can tell you if the link has disappeared.

There are plenty of link monitoring sites, you put all link there and they check them every couple of days and send you an email if any is missing

I’d automate it if you have a decent number of links. Checking them manually gets annoying very fast.

Just make sure the tool checks more than whether the page is still online. It should also check if your link is still there, if the URL changed, and if it became nofollow.

That would’ve caught the exact issue you had after the redesign. I’d check the better links weekly and the rest maybe once a month.

I usually use a backlink monitoring tool and check my important links monthly. Manual checking gets difficult once you have a larger number of links, so automation definitely saves time and catches removed or changed links early.

I’d keep a simple list of the links you’ve built and check the important ones periodically. You mainly want to catch if the link was removed, changed to nofollow, or the page disappeared. For the more valuable links, checking them weekly or monthly should be enough.

Had this happen after redesigns too. I'd use a backlink monitoring tool for alerts, then manually check the profile every few months. IMO, that's much better than discovering lost or nofollowed links by chance.
