if new site gets impressions but almost no clicks, what would you check first.

Impressions alone are not enough to convert to clicks. From what position on the SERP are you accruing those impressions?

Jumping from impression and straight to clicks and wondering why you're not getting clicks is really not what you should be doing. Know exactly where you stand on the SERP and work on increasing from there. It'll improve your chances of getting any clicks.

I would check if the positions are real - I have had situations that claims thousands of impressions but I could not reproduce the positions in real-life at all so I genuinely marked it down as a bug.

Check your CTR elements: headline urgency, image relevance, and positioning. If you're leveraging native traffic through MGID or similar networks, low clicks almost always mean your creative visual isn't standing out enough against the surrounding content.

i would start with the search queries nd title tags. if the website is receiving impressions, the google page has already been inddexed and all that is left to check is whether the result is good enough for ppl to click on it. To determine that i would see the CTR through search console, test the title nd meta description nd only after that analyze the traffic nd keywords volume and positions.

There are a lot of scrapers and AI agents investigating the pages, especially on new sites.

Firstly i will check is your title tag and meta description, if they're generic or don't match search intent, people scroll right past even if you're ranking. After that I'd look at your actual position, if you're sitting page 2 or bottom of page 1, low CTR is just normal there regardless of how good your snippet is. Also worth checking if AI Overviews.

first to check is ranking for that keyword, if your keyword rank in like 50 position. You will get no clicks. it's normal commonly. So you need to optimize to get better ranking with build website authority, internal link or external link.

if your rank is like in top 10 SERP, you have to check CTR, if you have big impressions but no click it can be your meta title and meta description is not good.

another things to check is intent, currently we are in zero click era. So for keywords that information like "what is" it will tackle by Google overview. it will give you citation sometimes, but no click

I would first examine the exact position and query intent through the Google Search Console, followed by checking how the SERP looks. If the problem lies in low positions and mismatches between queries and the website, then improving titles and meta will not help.

Usually it's the title being too generic or the description not matching the search intent. People are seeing your result but not finding it interesting enough to click.

I’d first check whether the keywords actually match the page content and search intent. Then I’d test different titles and meta descriptions to improve CTR without changing the rankings.

i have faced opposite situation like my site is getting click from 20 to 100 but there are very less impressions like 500 maximum but it can be because of low quality content

I’d check the SERP title and meta description first. Impressions with almost no clicks usually mean the page is being shown but the snippet isn’t compelling or the ranking is too low.

Look at the search results for those keywpords. If the google is showing a lot of diffrent results types, that may explain why people are not clicking.

I'd check the keywords and titles first. Impressions don't mean much if they're coming from irrelevant searches. I'd also look at the SERP and see why competitors are getting the clicks instead. and fix that before worrying about more backlinks.

There are many cases where the exposure rate is not linked to the click rate. One such case is when the ranking is low, such as on pages 10 or 40. The other case is if the ranking is high, then it is only due to the fact that the title and description do not meet the searchers' intentions that there is exposure but no clicks.
