Interesting result from a new SEO campaign

Hi,we have been doing link building for years and have worked on plenty of campaigns, but something from a recent client caught my attention.

We started seo and link building for a software tool site. The owner was relatively new to seo, so we started working on the sites authority and building relevant backlinks.

Recently, one of his customers mentioned that Chatgpt recommended the software to him, and thats how he found it. obviously, Im not saying the backlinks directly caused the Chatgpt recommendation. Theres no way to prove that. But it was interesting to see this happen while we were working on the sites organic visibility.

Got me thinking about whether the seo work we are doing for Google is also helping sites become more visible in ai search.
Anyone else seeing their clients getting recommended by Chatgpt or other ai tools after improving their seo/link profile?

Definitely interesting. I’ve noticed a similar pattern with SEO improvements sometimes coinciding with better visibility in AI search. Hard to say backlinks directly cause recommendations, but stronger authority, relevance, and content quality likely help AI systems discover and trust a site.
 
It’s less about ChatGPT actually tracking your backlinks and more about where those links and mentions end up. If your tool shows up in niche roundups, software comparisons, and review sites, there’s a lot more relevant content for AI search systems to pick up when they’re researching a topic.

They’re not really looking at link equity the way Google does. They’re pulling context from pages that already rank well and using that information to build an answer. So having good organic visibility plus mentions from relevant third party sites can definitely increase the chances of your brand showing up when someone asks an AI tool to recommend software.
 
Yes. Having topical expertise, entity signals, good backlinks, and mentions in brand articles can certainly increase visibility regardless of the fact that there’s no way to prove the cause and effect relationship.
 
It's very interesting to have AI pick up what you are building, it means you have gained prominence ranking and hence an increased visibility.
 
May be you have Json schema, and your page is ranking too, which is helping to fetch in LLM platforms, I have seen same pattern and we got a sale from Chatgpt.
 
Yeah I saw something like this with one of my clients too. Not sure if it was the link building or just the site getting more trust overall, but the timing was too close to ignore.

I think these AI tools still use the same things Google uses - backlinks, mentions, how much a site shows up online. So if we make that better for SEO, it probably helps with AI visibility too, even if that's not the main goal.

Would be cool if someone actually tracked this properly, like checking AI mentions before and after a campaign. Feels like this could turn into its own service soon.

Interesting observation Better SEO and stronger brand visibility may indirectly help AI tools discover and understand a website its difficult to prove a direct connection with backlinks alone.

Yeap.. I'd treat it as correlation rather than causation though. Strong SEO improves through topic alignment, entity associations, and site’s digital footprint, which support AI discoverability. Interesting metrics be whether those ai mentions become consistent across queries over time, not by single recommendation.

I have noticed something similar. I wouldn’t say backlinks directly cause AI recommendations, but strong SEO can improve the overall signals around a brand relevance, authority, mentions, and content coveragewhich may also help AI systems discover and understand the site.
 
in my opinion enhanced topical relevancy and website authority might positively impact the AI is visibility but it is hard to distinguish SEO from other things it would be interesting to have more cases in the future.
 
I have noticed this as well, although it’s hard to directly connect it to backlinks. I think stronger topical relevance, authority and useful content can help a site become more visible across both traditional search and AI search.
