Do you think the AI boom is just a bubble that’s about to burst?

It depends on how you look at it:

1) Is it a bubble based on how much money is being invested in it at this point?

Most likely

2) will it permanently change the structure of economy as we know it?

Definitely

Those who jumped to adapt it in their profession or companies will be majorly ahead of those who didn't
About the effect on the job market - we will still see, as we're at the beginning.

But one thing that's telling is that I hear it's the first time in the history in the US, where there's a higher unemployment rate among the college graduates, then among the high-school graduates.
A lot of the white collar jobs are apparently being automated, and staff reduced.

Honestly, I think there's definitely a bubble element — some valuations are absurd for companies with no revenue. But unlike the dot-com crash, AI has real, practical use cases already, so the tech itself isn't going away. We'll see a shakeout, but the revolution is real, just overpriced right now.

Sam Altman is the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT.
He has openly said that there is a bubble around AI right now: investors are getting too excited and putting huge amounts of money into AI companies. However, Altman also emphasizes that
AI itself is not a bubble — it is a real and very important technology.
His position in short:

“Investors are getting too excited about AI, but the technology itself is truly revolutionary.”
In other words, according to Altman, company valuations and investments may crash, but artificial intelligence itself is not going away.

Yeah, i think theres bubble in part of it rightnow, but if the next token prediction algorithm could reach agi, thats game changer

AI is already attracting billions of dollars in investment. Some companies are raising $10M, $50M, and even $100M+.

New AI startups are popping up every day, and some companies are being valued in the billions before they’ve even managed to show serious profits.

And that raises the question

Are we witnessing the beginning of a technological revolution, or is the market massively overheated?

Will AI really change the world — or will we look back on this hype in a few years as just another bubble?
I think it is a bubble, one that is serving itself. Whether it'll burst or not is what i can't tell, I don't think I'm experienced or knowledgeable enough for that. But what I struggle to understand is how these companies intend to make profit from all of these.

I am an AI enthusiast and have worked with it for many years. I often train models doing freelance work called data annotation.

It is a bubble. The fact is that AI is really only good for coding and video/image gen, and those models are getting more and more impressive on local hardware. Most people do not need AI for those purposes. Using it well for those purposes requires significant training. I'm waiting for the day we can run Opus on my 3090.

Also tons of sites are adding features for "AI generated personal messages" which is downright stupid. Why AI generate a personal communication between me and someone I've met? How scared are people of looking stupid? Are they so lazy they can't reply with just two or three words like back in the SMS days? It's an AI anti-pattern.

The best thing I can do is build a non-AI application with AI, since this is the cheapest AI will ever get. I did so and I am doing well with it.

It definitely feels like dot-com bubble dynamics where valuations are getting ahead of actual revenue. However, unlike dot-com era startups, the utility is already integrated into daily workflows (like code generation, content drafting, and customer service automation). The inflated valuations might pop, but the core technology is definitely staying.
