Are you born with mental toughness, or can you build it?

Some people seem incredibly resilient from a young age.
They’re hard to break, they handle tough situations calmly, and they don’t give up after their first setback.

Others, on the other hand, can struggle even with relatively small problems.

But here’s the real question: are we born this way, or do we become this way over time?

Can you actually train your mental toughness just like you train your muscles at the gym?

you need to be close relative of ceo Alliance insurance for job that pays money after getting fake degree printed. then entire population of USA will do tele calling selling insurance products of fake companies... See nepotism builds toughness and to build toughness you need money.

I think it’s possible under some circumstances or the environment. Voluntarily with no internal genes or external circumstance, it’ll be very difficult, but not impossible to train the mind

I think you can build it over time. Some people probably have a naturally calmer personality, but dealing with difficult situations again and again makes you stronger too. Same as the gym really, you don't get stronger without putting yourself through some hard stuff.

well, in the last 15 years ive burried 2 german shepherds
ive also burried mom / dad / step mom / aunt / brother

and in the same week my brother died i had a heart attack
and was quoted a 10% survival chance. Tough enough for ya

and im still here most of the year on bhw.

I think it’s a mix of both. Some people naturally handle stress better, but mental toughness can definitely be developed. Facing challenges, learning from failures, staying disciplined, and pushing through uncomfortable situations gradually make you stronger mentally.

That's tough, you have any tips in handling things like that?

when i almost died the same week as my brother
i went from a mounthy cockey clown to withdrawn
it took my wife several months to bring the old me
back as i was worried that i was NEXT.

I wasnt born with mental toughness, i developed my OCD at my 21st age, ever since the life has been total opposite and a nightmare, every day, every night passed keeping me anxious.

Cant explain them in words, I hope i wil have a better life from now! Medications can help at some extent, but nothing helped me , Gym, yoga and nothing.. :(

Overall, all the questions are clear. I enjoy discussing topics like these.

And one more addition: do you think that even in adulthood, with the help of psychologists, coaches, or through conscious self-development, it’s possible to significantly strengthen not only your inner strength but also your mental resilience in general - to change the way you think, your reactions to stress, your attitude toward difficulties, and learn to control your emotions better?
