Is AI SEO Really Necessary or Good SEO Still Enough?

I have a question. Is good seo is to put a mix of backlinks with high DA/DR, or are niche backlinks important? Sometimes both work.
DA/DR are alternatives to PR. However, since these are from third parties, I don't depend on them, but of course if I found a bunch of DA/DR links, I'd use them to build backlinks. My entire link building strategy is based on automation - I don't build links manually. DA/DR or niche relevance doesn't matter honestly. Niche-related backlinks are worth it if you're looking for PBNs or niche edits, but if you're on tiered link building, the most important thing is your entire backlink profile. If the content (not root domain) is related to your niche market, you're good to go. Just make sure you're building a good tiered link structure and it's not broken. Consistent link building is more important than authority links. Do-follow links only, PBNs, etc.

Please share the list for study!
Sorry i don't get what list you are referring to ?

Nowadays I don't use WordPress as a CMS - most of my sites are now just HTML and made with different AI models. I own a handful of websites and, similar to your strategy, but I'm heavily dependent on tiered link building. I'll stick to that as my niche (I work only three niches and have been working them for more than a decade). I agree with interlinking - crawlers love them.
Thats a great strategy using only html example google blogspot , which has zero crawl waste urls too. Problem it has often when you copy your content written with help of AI maybe, copy& paste into a blogspot heme, all the formations are gone, a nightmare.
The more modern blogspot templates can handle this better.

Happy sunday !

I still see good SEO doing most of the work. AI SEO looks more like an extra layer when the site has weak entity signals or the topic is not clear enough, but I wouldn’t build the whole strategy around AI citations alone.

Seo gives visibility
No one will be able to see your website without it.
Consider like a slight opening door which gets loosen over time. There are thousands of doors and websites on internet
It can open up automatically if inside the quality of air (content) is running after some time or
It will not open automatically
Or if you get some air to it( do seo) it will open very fast automatically depending upon air speed and quality ( backlinks quality)

I've worked on two different scenarios with my clients recently.

Client 1: We followed a standard SEO strategy (content, backlinks, technical SEO), and the site started getting cited in AI Overviews naturally.

Client 2: The same approach wasn't enough. We had to implement a more customized strategy that focused on topical authority, entity building, and content structure before we finally secured the citation in AI Overviews.

One putting a lot of effort into AEO / AI SEO / GEO strategy(whatever we're calling it these days) like building entity signals, optimizing for AI citations, and creating FAQ focused content.

Other doing nothing than solid, consistent SEO, good content, quality backlinks, proper on-page optimization and getting cited in AI Overviews without any dedicated AI strategy like other.

So I'm wondering what you guys thinking

Is AI SEO is must-have strategy?
Or simply strong SEO naturally leads to AI citations over time?

Are you getting cited in AI Overviews without changing your SEO strategy?

I'm curious to hear real experiences from others rather than just reading another "AI SEO is the future" post.
For the base case standard SEO should be sufficient but in niches that are highly competitive you'll need a specific AI SEO strategy to complement the standard strategy

In my opinion, simple on-page SEO is still sufficient. It is helpful, but quality content, proper on-page SEO, and relevant backlinks are more important.

Well it’s one of those six of one and half a dozen of the other type situations.

What I mean is this - GOOD SEO and we are talking onsite here as that’s what Ai boils down to really - it looks for info, it selects what it thinks constitutes a perfect answer.. well solid onsite SEO should always be enough to cover both ends and it should do that too.

Get me? Like when it boils down to it the majority of “Ai based search” is question based. In reality a well rounded site with their onsite SEO on point should have always been following such a sequence - presenting the question (aka problem) and giving the answer (often to their benefit too).. so in essence then yes good SEO should be enough.

Don’t get me wrong, since the rise of Ai we have to be more conscious of it and I know I am, for example I’ve refreshed a lot of pages to cater a bit more to LLM, things like using your FAQ section to your advantage is a good shout!

All in all.. onsite SEO should already have been incorporating what LLM/Ai is crawling for if we’re honest about it, we see these current buzz words yap on now (to sell you services or whatever).. but it’s always been that way with onsite SEO regardless of their yapping, yeah a little more emphasis on certain aspects like mentioned above sure - but it’s not rocket science it’s simple stuff you can easily incorporate with a few edits on your content.. regardless of how a lot of these self proclaimed gurus tend to claim.

Shit look at Reddit.. a question and answer site, because of its authority Google is giving it so much leverage in ai results right now. I personally feel that’s ridiculous as Reddit can be a sess pool. It shows you though - questions and answers.. that’s the brunt of Ai’s grasp and reward system in terms of seo right now.. that’s just my humble observations of the current land scape.

I think strong SEO is still the foundation.
AI SEO can help in competitive niches, but it’s not always necessary.
If your content is genuinely useful and authoritative, AI citations can happen naturally.

I’d start with solid SEO first, then strengthen the pages that matter with clear entities, direct answers, FAQs, and tighter topical coverage. That seems more practical than trying to “optimize for AI” separately.

Good seo is always mix of niche backlinks and strong on page.

Great one,
You can get great SEO results without AI; it’s helpful, but definitely not a must.
Its not must, but AI seo helps the site on page 3 to competite with site on top 3

Good SEO is still the base. AEO/GEO helps when the site needs clearer entities, structure, and topical depth, but strong content and authority can already earn AI citations without a separate “AI SEO” playbook.

Why not use a writing style that AI overview will barely copy? Then you will rank your posts in organic serps a big unfair seo advantagde.

Yeah the aim is to do both.. that’s what I’m getting at with my little rant of a reply up there.

My theory and way of thinking which I was explaining are that both can be done naturally with solid onsite SEO already, sure being conscious of ai search is a good idea to keep in mind these days while optimising your onsite like you always have.

It’s the old - two birds, with one stone as they say.

I think strong SEO is still the foundation. Good content, topical authority, technical SEO and quality backlinks can naturally lead to AI citations, although some sites may benefit from additional AEO work.

From what I've seen, solid SEO is still enough for a lot of sites. I wouldn't change the whole strategy just because of AI Overviews. If the content's good and the site has some authority, citations tend to happen on their own.

Extra effort might help in more competitive niches though.

I think the real test is whether AI-focused changes improve anything that normal SEO wasn’t already improving. I’d rather test them on a few pages first than change the whole strategy at once.
