Is it that I'm learning the wrong skill

I've been wandering online for over a year now chasing one quick money scheme or the other, but I always faced the challenge of either having no money to invest, restrictions of being a third world country resident, or the scheme not working. Having so much time on my hand I decided to focus on learning a skill, and I'm more of the logical, build it and see what it does type, so I settled for automation with python.

My aim was first to start as a VA, then automate my VA tasks with python to gain more experience even if I'm earning $2 per hour or even $150 monthly. So far I can automate excel, and CSV tasks, like reading, writing, cleaning and modifying data either with pandas, openpyxl, or even polar. I can scrape web pages using either selenium or playwright. I can generate, analyse, and do all sorts of operators on sales reports. Automate email sending, access API's to monitor and extract useful info's and a whole lot of other things.

But so far I'm finding it very difficult to source jobs for my skills. Upwork needs money for connects which I don't have, no body is looking at my fivver profile guess it's because I don't have reviews. A single comment on reddit always lead to an instant account ban, even tried LinkedIn but my account was hammered instantly. So I honestly want to ask is it that my automation skill is too niche specific, a wrong skill, or totally not worth it?

I want to wake up in the morning, fire my PC and work my arse off even if it means me sleeping for 5 hours a day, not sleep on empty stomachs when I like, while having terrible nightmares due to hunger and money worries. I have time, I mean lots of time, stable electricity and internet connection. What exactly am I doing wrong? I need clues and tips please.

Take some scripts and solutions, wire them into menu for xyz niche and sell SaaS.

Fiverr I didn't get one sale mid ticket. The connects you are right they eat credit, Freelancer may be better for that. I have a freelancer software for Upwork proposals called PouncerAi I think still works. Overall the freelancing is competitive. Then again I was wanting $36+ per hour.

Any other digital products you can do with this info you have? Lead generation solutions and such. Those scrapers could pull from a number of free no cost sources into an app by more than one way.

The problem is not with your skill but with the proposal. Rather than selling the Python automation solution, present solutions that will deliver “I will automate your Excel reports and save you 5 hours per week Prepare 2,3 convincing demos and focus on small business owners without using Upwork.
 
Python automation is a valuable skill, but you are struggling because public platforms favor established accounts while blocking new users, so you must switch to contacting clients directly or working for AI training companies.

automation of python is not my problem at all. the problem is the identification of pain points to solve. u should wrap up your knowledge into offers nd not offer python automation .
 
Python automation is definitely worth it. Keep building your portfolio and target small businesses—you just need the right clients. Don’t give up!
 
Mate your skill is fine, you are just selling the wrong thing. stop pitching python and start pitching time saved to local business owners. skip the paid platforms and go look at data annotation gigs or ai training companies if you need that cash fast.

You obviously still stay with your parents then, since you got tons of free time? Wouldn't you think you are better of learning business from taking employment with a local company (helping your parents pay the bills instead of pay for you) ? Rather than keep trying and failing for years, since you don't know the fundamentals. Your skills are just hobby skills atm. Many people (too many) know their way around python scraping. Its no big deal with chatgpt. Thats why freelancers are struggling right now, as entrepreneurs get a better service from chatgpt compared to noob programmers.

Making money online is easier once you know how to work, and what to work on. If you are having hungry and money worries, you just need to get a job. You can't/won't find a magic mystical money tree method that will suddenly solve your problems.
You can build up your learning online with a job, and do better work in what might actually give you an income.
 
Focus on skills that can help you find more common job opportunities rather than niche fields. Popular jobs often have a high demand for skilled workers.

I feel that your skill are gud enough. the trick is finding something people will be willing to pay for. It will not be the proces of doing it it will be the outcome of it. find something boring that wastes their time.
 
Thank you all for your honest and straight to the point response, I appreciate you all. Will need to keep grinding, I think I will focus more on contacting small scale business owners. I've been heavily focused on using reddit, all these while. Maybe it is time to use other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X and others. Thank you all once again as for Panther28 no I'm not leaving with my parents, I live on my savings, which is fast depleting.
 
basic python scripting isn't enough when GPT writes code instantly you need to sell actual business solutions, not just scripts.
