Do you check Search Console before changing a page?

Yes always, first thing i chck actually. If a page is already getting impressions/clicks for certain queries
i make sure not to accidentally kill that by changing the focus keyword or rewriting sections
that are working. Seen ppl improve a page based on gut feeling and loose rankings they didn't even know they had bcoz they never checked what was already working before touching it.

Yes, I check Search Console first, then review rankings, clicks, and competitors before making changes.
 
First, I analyze the GSC queries, impressions, CTR and indexation, and then the competitors, algorithm changes, and finally change the page.
 
I would start in Search Console. I would look at impressions, clicks, CTR, and rankings. Next, I would check for seasonality and changes in the SERP. I would also review technical issues and see what competitors are doing. After that, I would make any content edits.
 
Definitely I would have to look at Search Console first I would compare the previous and current periods impressions CTR and average positions of queries and consider what my competitors are doing and how things have changed at my website before making changes.

Yeah, that’s the way to go. I’d also check which queries/pages caused the movement, then compare against competitors before touching anything – otherwise it’s easy to ;fix' something that wasn’t actually broken.

Sure, looking at the change history will definitely prevent you from a lot of guessing. I would also compare “before” and “after” in Google Search Console, particularly queries, CTR, and positions,

Yes, we have to check the search console declined queries and pages to check what is declined. Also, ill check with the SEO tools like semrush, ahref there also i could see why that page has started to lose its traffic in the terms of keyword drop, competitors has taken the position.

That’s an excellent diagnostic approach. I also make sure that the affected queries have either lost positions or impressions and only then I go ahead to analyze the SERP changes and backlinks.

And that’s essentially my process as well. Search Consol. offers a more accurate view of where the fall happened, followed by competitor analysis and indexing.

Same here, GSC gives me the clearest idea even before touching anything. If it’s page or query specific, it becomes a lot easier to know whether the problem lies with content, indexing, or even the SERP.
