Choosing a YouTube topic is so difficult

You should return to your original topic, as your current followers are interested in food and travel; if you plan to adjust your content or target a different audience, it would be better to start a new channel rather than using the existing one.

I'm so lucky that the number of followers I had from the beginning has stayed with me until now.
 
Changing the niche can affect the channel. If you wanna do something different then try it out on a new channel.
 
You should focus on the new niche so that your audience can enjoy your content or else they will leave your page and your viewership will gradually slow down so it is important to make videos on new niche or content.
 
It's so obivious, you already have audience for travel and food content and they don't watch videos on other topic.. so the engagement dropped. Don't evrer combine two different niche content in a single channel. If the channel already have some audience. You will not only loose engagement but hurting your brand also. try different channel for different niche contents.

At that time, I was too focused on traffic and forgot about the possibility of creating a new channel with different content. As a result, I'm now stuck between conflicting thoughts.

I was too hasty in thinking that the new topic would explode in popularity and potentially last a long time, forgetting that the initial follower count for me was a different topic.

More importantly, if the new format is exhausting you, it probably isn’t sustainable long term.
 
You made a big mistake by switching to the topic of finding missing persons; travel and food are the trending topics right now.

Why don't you start a new channel? In this way your old channel will be unaffected.
 
You took a wrong step to switch from food travel to finding missing people content on same channel because these are two different contents and youtube never allows to do this. You should have to keep both contents on two separate channels. Because posting two different contents on same channels can lose the interest of early content audience thats why you facing less engagement on your channel.

At first, I was really excited about the new theme of finding relatives, perhaps because the travel market was already oversaturated. The search proved more difficult than I expected. I should reconsider.

I’d test the old content again before making a full switch. Drop 3–5 travel/food videos and watch CTR, retention and comments. If those numbers wake back up, you’ve got your answer. No need to blow up the whole channel overnight.

If you have recently switched from one niche to another, its very normal to see lower views, the algo is going to take time to reset your channel to the right audience and this may take anywhere between 1 - 6 months bare minimum, also you will lose the subscribers you gained from earlier content, which is totally normal...Just focus now on one niche for 1 channel.

Also follow competitors,copy their style and etc based on teh videos that are blowing up for them.

I've started practicing my old vlogging work again. Your feedback has been very helpful to me.
 
I have seen channels die instantly the moment they shift to a completely different niche.
 
It'll take some time for YouTube to change your channel topic.
