I see many fanatical people watching animes, movies, series, playing games, reading books (less common) all day, especially young generations. Not as a distraction, but in an unhealthy way, without time limits, just playing or watching indefinitely, which generated terms like "binge watching" and "bed rotting", very common in these days. Not to say about zombie scrolling.
Also, searches about "how to control your dreams", "how to have a lucid dream" and terms like that are increasing, many people prefer to stay asleep rather than awake.
People want to live in that anime or in that game world as much as they can, millions of people don't want to live in this reality anymore. When they finally turn their screens off, they need to deal with a world full of micro transactions, big tech exploiting your privacy, AI slop everywhere and all kind of imaginable decadence in this tech hell.
Do you agree that many people don't want to live in this reality anymore? Maybe this is one of the reasons that billionaires are trying to push metaverse, virtual reality and other simulations, so you don't need to live in this world anymore.
