Has anyone noticed a sudden Google ranking drop recently? I’ve seen some fluctuations across a few sites and I’m curious if others are experiencing the same.

Is it related to a recent Google update, or just normal ranking volatility?

What are you seeing on your end?

Aug update.

Yeah, I am experiencing same. I think it has something to do with the August update. Things will normalize and pick up soon I guess

The recent drop in Google rankings may have been caused by the latest algorithm updates, but I’m not sure about your specific case. If your drop is related to a recent algorithm update, you can check whether your site was affected.

Sometimes rankings drop because competitors have improved their pages. Check the pages that moved above you and see what they are doing better before assuming it is a Google update.

The recent August spam update just finished rolling out which caused a lot of volatility across multiple niches. I'd wait a few more days for the SERPs to settle before making any major changes to content or link structures.

Check if your main pages are still indexed by Google. Sometimes a small technical issue can make a page lose rankings.

Yes, I’ve seen ranking changes happen suddenly, especially around Google updates. I usually check Search Console, affected pages, keywords, competitors, and traffic before making changes. Sometimes it’s normal volatility, so I wait and monitor.

Google buried a lot of sites in their backyard this month. They have done something at the beginning of the month and didn't reveal a word about it. They released a spam update on top of it.

You're definitely not alone. While the August 2026 spam update officially concluded on August 21st, significant ranking volatility has persisted through the remainder of the month.

Google has updated its anti-spam ranking system, and it has affected quite a few websites this month. It will probably take some time for this to stabilize.

check GSC for any manual actions first then compare the timing of your drops to when the update started rolling out.

i m noticing some action as well but it has not been across the board. in fact some of my keywords have fallen off, while others have even gotten better. this causes me to believe that this is likely just natural flluctuation as opposed to an outright algorithm change.

I’ve noticed some movement too, but not on every site. Could be normal fluctuation, I’d wait a bit before blaming it on an update.

a little movement too, but I think we should wait for some time before taking any drastic action. usually, what I do is check with GSC whether the issue lies with the update or not.

Noticed this on a couple sites as well. Some keywords dropped while others went up, so I’m waiting to see if it settles.

I wouldn’t blame an update straight away. First thing I’d check is GSC to see if the drop is sitewide or just a few pages/queries. If it’s only bouncing around for a couple days, could just be normal volatility.
