How many links do you normally build before judging a new page?

I’ve been wondering how other people handle this because I don’t think there’s really a fixed number that works for every site.

When I publish a new page, I usually don’t start building a ton of links straight away. I’ll get the page properly indexed first and give it some time to see how it behaves on its own. Then I’ll start with a few relevant links and watch what happens over the next few weeks.

The part I find difficult is knowing when there are simply not enough links versus when the page just isn’t good enough.

For example, if I build 5–10 decent links and the page barely moves, I don’t automatically assume I need another 50 links. Sometimes the content or search intent is the bigger problem.

On the other hand, if the page is already sitting somewhere around page 2 or 3 and starts moving after a few relevant links, I’m more comfortable continuing with it.

I’m curious how everyone else judges this.

Do you have a rough number of links you normally build before deciding whether a page has potential, or do you mainly look at rankings, competition and the quality of the links rather than the actual number?

I normally build a small batch first and give it a few weeks to settle because a lack of movement can often to point content or relevant issues rather than simply needing more backlinks

it's just the same way with yours i have to see that the page is getting the highest impressions and little clicks

I never aim for a specific number of backlinks—quality and competition matter more. If a page's ranking stalls, I first check content and search intent fit before adding more links.

i usually start with a smaller batch and let it sit for few time first.then i check how things are moving because when there is no real progress it can sometimes mean the content or relevance needs fixing rather than just adding more backlinks.

There’s no magic number imo. If 5–10 relevant links make no difference, I’d check the content and search intent before adding another 50.

There is no fixed number of links to build before judging a new page, because search engines index good content on their own.

Adding links should come after the page has started getting some impressions. Also the quality and quantity of that impressing will determine if I should add more links
